About The Position

General Motors is seeking a Process Engineer to support electrode manufacturing operations at the Wallace Battery Development Center. In a pilot-scale battery development environment, this role helps transform emerging battery chemistries into scalable manufacturing processes, with a primary focus on developing, optimizing, and executing electrode slurry mixing processes for advanced battery cells. The engineer works with product and materials engineers, technicians, process engineers, quality teams, manufacturing partners, and other cross-functional groups to establish robust processes and support manufacturing scale-up. The position contributes to battery technologies including Lithium Manganese Rich (LMR) and sodium-ion platforms for electric vehicles and energy storage systems. The role is categorized as hybrid, with the selected candidate expected to report to a specific location at least three times a week or at another frequency determined by their manager. Travel is less than 25%. Relocation benefits may be available to candidates who qualify under company policy. The role is subject to export control restrictions and requires the successful candidate to meet the stated U.S. Person or export authorization eligibility criteria. GM does not provide immigration-related sponsorship for this role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or a closely related technical field.
  • At least three years of hands-on process engineering experience in a laboratory, pilot plant, or manufacturing environment.
  • Direct experience with slurry mixing, chemical formulation, industrial mixing, wet chemistry processes, or similar materials-processing operations.
  • Strong understanding of chemical processing fundamentals, material interactions, and manufacturing process controls.
  • Experience developing, documenting, and executing manufacturing processes, technical procedures, recipes, or standard operating procedures.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and root cause analysis experience using structured methodologies such as 8D, DMAIC, A3, or equivalent approaches.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to resolve technical process challenges.
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must meet the stated U.S. Person or export control authorization eligibility requirements.
  • Must not require GM immigration-related sponsorship now or in the future.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting lithium-ion battery development, battery cell manufacturing, or electrode manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of battery materials, including cathode materials, anode materials, binders, solvents, conductive additives, and related chemistries.
