About The Position

Chart is seeking a Process Engineer for its team. The role begins to take direct engineering responsibility for conceptual design of Chart process technologies that meet customer requirements. Working within a small team and autonomously on open-ended tasks, the Process Engineer prepares process information deliverables for basic engineering design packages and contributes across technology development, from novel equipment and experiments to detailed large-scale equipment design, sourcing, and operation. The work involves complex and unique problems and supports the development of Chart’s Cryogenic Carbon Capture technology. The role may be based in Orem, Utah, or at Chart offices in Allentown, Pennsylvania; La Crosse, Wisconsin; or The Woodlands, Texas. Some travel is required, at 10% or less.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of Aspen Plus/HYSYS and/or similar process simulation software, including dynamics simulation.
  • Knowledge of chemical engineering first principles, especially thermodynamics and heat/mass transfer, and the ability to apply them to real-world systems.
  • Proven teamwork skills.
  • Sound organizational skills for completing tasks as scheduled.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for explaining challenges and solutions internally and presenting externally.
  • Good interpersonal skills to interface successfully with other engineering disciplines and customers.
  • Ability to work well in a small team and operate autonomously on open-ended tasks.
  • Ability to travel some, 10% or less.
  • Physical ability to frequently sit for extended periods, stand, walk, use hands and fingers, handle or feel, and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and lift up to 50 pounds as required.
  • Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus; duties involve lengthy visual requirements on computer monitors.

Nice To Haves

  • Two to five years of process engineering experience, or educational equivalent.
  • Computer programming expertise in one or more of C++, C#, Java/JavaScript, or Python.
  • Knowledge of cryogenic process technologies, including cryogenic air separation, natural gas liquefaction, hydrogen liquefaction, or helium processing and liquefaction.
  • Knowledge of natural gas processing technologies.
  • Some experience and interest in control system and human-machine-interface software.
  • Understanding of basic applicable engineering, electrical, and safety codes.

Responsibilities

  • Support process development for Cryogenic Carbon Capture technology using Aspen Plus, Aspen HYSYS, and Aspen EDR.
  • Simulate steady-state and transient/dynamic processes to describe performance and generate heat and material balances.
  • Work with clients and other engineers on feasibility, preFEED, and FEED studies for Cryogenic Carbon Capture plants.
  • Prepare process equipment data sheets and equipment lists.
  • Prepare Process Flow Diagrams.
  • Assist in developing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams.
  • Assist in developing wiring and loop drawings and control system architectural drawings for internal research and development work.
  • Provide process data to mechanical engineering counterparts and key vendors for equipment sourcing.
  • Check process engineering work performed by other Process and Process I Engineers.
  • Assist in preparing Start-up and Operating Manuals.
  • Participate in experimental work and prototype operation.
  • Develop and implement industrial-grade process control, including model predictive controls and human-machine interfaces, for highly integrated prototype and commercial processes (optional, but preferred).

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Employer contributions to an HSA account.
  • Health Care and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA).
  • Company-paid short-term and long-term disability coverage.
  • Basic life insurance, with the option to purchase supplemental individual, spouse, and dependent child coverage.
  • Up to two weeks of paid family leave.
  • 401(k) retirement savings plan including a company match.
