About The Position

The Process Engineer-in-Training will assist Process Engineers and Managers in the development and presentation of lump sum proposals, process design, and detailed design of key heat exchangers, vessels, fractionation towers, and utility systems. The ideal candidate is expected to pro-actively identify where processes can be adapted and optimized to ensure cost effectiveness. Throughout the design process, the Process Engineer-in-Training will assist in verifying practices for efficiency and accuracy in order to implement processes that are safe and improve quality.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from an accredited university
  • Registered or eligible for registration with APEGA
  • Competent in applying principles Chemical Engineering to specifications and design of process equipment
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Flexible and able to meet objectives while working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and strict deadlines
  • Adapts to changing demands and takes independent action to accomplish objectives
  • Superior interpersonal, verbal, written, and graphical communication skills; communicates clearly and respectfully
  • Understands complex verbal and written instructions
  • Excellent reading, research, and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and utilize complex information
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent organizational, time management, and planning skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with simulators, HYSIS, ProMax, and heat exchanger engineering software would be beneficial

Responsibilities

  • Apply practical knowledge and develop broad based skills while contributing to the overall success of Propak’s operations through interaction with a cross functional team
  • Working with senior engineers, assist in the development of conceptual and detailed process design
  • Assist with control narrative and control scheme development
  • Assist with cause-and-effect design development
  • Apply knowledge of process engineering software to perform process simulations
  • Create process flowsheet & P&ID
  • Preparation and modification of line list
  • Development of equipment and instrumentation requirements
  • Prepare equipment datasheet and specifications
  • Provide detailed equipment sizing, design, selection, and specification
  • Take part in tendering, specifying, and selection of major equipment
  • Responsible for control valve and PSV sizing
  • Participate in P&ID reviews, and HAZOPs
  • Participate in 3D model reviews
  • Apply technical knowledge to flare system design and modelling
  • Liase with other engineering disciplines in the preparation and presentation of project proposals
