About The Position

LanzaJet is looking for a motivated, high-energy, well-organized, collaborative Process Engineer for its innovative Ethanol to Sustainable Aviation Jet (SAF) and Diesel process global commercialization efforts. This person will need to possess the skills to understand and produce process design packages, execute complex projects, and have a desire to deliver outstanding work products to clients. Will be responsible for process engineering design and development of information and deliverables for all project phases (conceptual inception, techno-economic evaluations, feasibility studies, basic engineering design, and operation). This will include collaborating with EPC and partners to deliver and evaluate process mass & energy balances, utility consumption, input for life cycle and sustainability analyses, equipment specifications, piping plans, P&IDs, PFDs, and instrument specifications. The ultimate goal is to create and deliver feasibility/ techno-economic studies, as well as licensing, process engineering design packages, and support commissioning and startup activities for customers and partners. The position is for the corporate office located outside Chicago in Deerfield, Illinois.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ of professional experience for Process Engineer II based on experience, skillset and expertise.
  • Targeted experience in process engineering design and operational experience in refining, petrochemical, or chemical industry environments.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully applying the fundamentals of Chemical Engineering to industrial-scale projects.
  • Chemical processing and design experience at R&D and/or EPC organizations is highly desired.
  • Operations experience in plant environment is desirable.
  • Experience developing process engineering designs for refining, petrochemical, or chemical industrial manufacturing processes. (Process flow diagrams, piping & instrument diagrams, heat & mass balances, basic piping system design, pump sizing, material handling methods, equipment, functional & installation specifications, as well as process instrumentation & control principles.)
  • Familiarity with Aspen Hysys a plus
  • Solid analytical skills, a basic understanding of project management fundamentals as well as strong computer skills (Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, & AutoCAD).
  • Proficient with written and verbal technical communication including generating reports and conducting group presentations.
  • Must possess strong collaboration skills and the ability to build relationships and influence others, at all levels.
  • Willing and able to travel globally as required for project requirements to include but not limited to project installation and start-up activities, customer meetings, training and industry related seminars.
  • BS in Chemical Engineering
  • Periodic travel up to 50% may be required to support startup and operation of licensed units
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and in the future

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s in Chemical Engineering preferred
  • Six Sigma or Lean methodology training preferred
  • Fundamentals of Engineering or Professional Engineering license preferred

Responsibilities

  • Develop process simulations, heat and material balances, and equipment sizing
  • Prepare and review PFDs, P&IDs, process calculations, and process design documents
  • Collaborate with other Engineers, EPC, and partners to deliver process mass and energy balances, utility consumption, sustainability analyses, instrument specifications, etc.
  • Initiate projects with a focus on guaranteeing that safety, government, and regulatory standards and requirements are met for key clients
  • Support targeted, technical solutions that include chemical processing, life cycle, and sustainability studies, utilities, automation (control systems integration), civil and construction management disciplines in collaboration with Senior Process Engineers
  • Support global customer facing process design and development project activities while meeting safety, government and regulatory standards and requirements
  • Gain familiarity with engineering tools to support the development of engineering design packages. Tool use will focus on process design and equipment sizing (vessels, pumps, exchangers, reactors, utilities, PSVs, instruments etc.) for use in basic design
  • Participate in PHAs, design review, and commissioning activities
  • Ensure quality through the implementation of rigorous project management and design reviews
  • Review submittts, answer RFIs, and complete field visits to verify process and onsite work is proceeding according to design
  • Support operational technical support during test runs, commissioning, startups, and shutdowns
  • Execute assigned work with minimal supervision while following established engineering practices
