About The Position

The Process Engineer II at Thermo Fisher Scientific will play a key role in supporting and optimizing manufacturing processes and mechanical systems within the Lab Chemicals Division (LCD). This role will partner closely with operations, maintenance, equipment engineering, safety, and quality to improve process reliability, enhance equipment performance, drive productivity, and support cost reduction initiatives. The position will apply both process engineering and mechanical engineering principles to troubleshoot equipment and process issues, support capital improvements, and implement sustainable solutions across manufacturing operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline.
  • 4+ years of progressive experience in chemical, pharmaceutical, or other regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing equipment and mechanical systems, including pumps, piping, process equipment, rotating equipment, or packaging/filling systems.
  • Experience with Process Safety Management (PSM), including PHA, MOC, incident investigation, and risk mitigation.
  • Knowledge of equipment reliability, mechanical troubleshooting, and process optimization principles.
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP) and data-driven problem solving.
  • Experience applying Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to drive continuous improvement.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and root cause analysis skills, including CAPA development.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work across functions and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day technical support for production operations, ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient performance of manufacturing processes and mechanical systems.
  • Troubleshoot and optimize process equipment, including pumps, valves, piping systems, filling lines, packaging equipment, distillation systems, and other production assets to improve reliability and reduce downtime.
  • Design, develop, and implement process and mechanical improvements that enhance safety, efficiency, quality, and sustainability.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to identify improvement opportunities, analyze production and equipment performance data, and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain process control strategies, SOPs, work instructions, and engineering documentation to support regulatory compliance and operational discipline.
  • Lead root cause analysis, risk assessments, and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA) to resolve process and equipment-related issues and prevent recurrence.
  • Evaluate, specify, and support selection, installation, and qualification of manufacturing equipment, mechanical systems, and automation technologies to improve scalability and process capability.
  • Apply Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma methodologies to improve process flow, eliminate waste, improve equipment performance, and reduce operating costs.
  • Support and manage capital projects (CapEx), including equipment upgrades, infrastructure improvements, mechanical modifications, and automation projects from concept through execution.
  • Prepare and communicate technical analyses, project updates, performance metrics, and improvement recommendations to stakeholders and leadership.
