About The Position

The Electro Optical Infrared Systems (EOIS) line of business within DRS has locations in Dallas and Austin, TX, Melbourne, FL, and Cypress, CA. As a leading supplier of infrared (IR) imaging, DRS NIS – Illinois is seeking a process engineer who will join the crystal growth team and be responsible for growth of HgCdTe active layers by molecular beam epitaxy. Responsible for maintaining and operating process equipment, including troubleshooting of problems and execution of equipment upgrades or new installations. Engineers are expected to be able to train and advise other team members as required, as well as prepare and present technical reports.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering or related technical major
  • 2+ years of experience (or equivalent combination of education/training and experience); competent technical expertise and application domain knowledge
  • Background in molecular beam epitaxy or similar technology
  • Experience in cleanroom laboratory environment
  • Interpret and follow written documents such as SOPs and safety rules
  • Good communication skills (oral and written)
  • Work under minimal supervision and provide guidance to technicians and other engineers
  • Ability to coordinate several activities at the same time, and to reprioritize in response to changing operational conditions
  • Ability to handle small delicate components
  • Ability to handle hazardous chemicals
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • This position requires an active DOD security clearance or the ability to obtain such clearance within a reasonable time after commencement of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Background in material growth and characterization
  • Work from engineering specifications, operation sheets, wiring and assembly drawings, and sketches
  • Experienced in one or more computer programming language (or scripting environment), and the use of common computer applications, including Access, Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Test, inspect, and repair electronic, optical or mechanical assemblies

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain material growth reactors and other process equipment to produce standard products or to grow custom materials
  • Provide technical support to technicians, scientists, and other engineers on components, devices, material, products, processes and/or equipment
  • Assist in training new team members
  • Interface with other team members to assure efficient flow of information and materials
  • Other duties as assigned
