About The Position

GAF is constructing its newest shingle manufacturing facility in Newton, KS, and is hiring for its initial plant leadership team. This Co-Opportunity is a chance for students to learn about their chosen field in a real work environment with experienced GAF professionals. Participants will be involved in high-profile projects as integral members of working teams. Assignments are full-time and last for a school term, with the possibility of returning for additional terms. The role involves wearing many hats during the construction and commissioning phases, easing into a steady role over time. Requirements

  • Spring term candidates must be able to work full-time for a minimum of 6-months (January - July 2027).
  • Candidates must be pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Industrial Engineering.
  • All candidates must have a minimum 2.8 GPA, with at least a sophomore standing.
  • Problem solving, project management and communication skills are all necessary as is the ability to operate in a team environment.
  • Ability to generate accurate and concise technical reports.
  • Computer skills in Google as well as basic knowledge of MS Visio and Auto CAD.

Nice To Haves

  • For returning co-ops only, we also offer a Summer term where candidates must be able to work full-time for 3 months (June - Aug 2027).
  • We also offer combined Spring/Summer terms (June - Dec 2027).

Responsibilities

  • Performing raw material quality assurance activities and material performance.
  • Conducting problem solving investigations and troubleshooting to assure root cause is identified, counter measures and recurrence prevention are fully implemented.
  • Supporting quality improvement initiatives directly or indirectly with suppliers.
  • Providing technical support and analytical analysis for material issues.
  • Involvement with data flow diagrams/technical diagrams.
