About The Position

The Process Engineer - CNC Programmer is responsible for developing and documenting CNC and manual machining processes. Duties include hands-on development, troubleshooting, CNC programming, process definition, standard work, tool design & improvement, and process control documentation. This role acts as the technical liaison between Engineering and Manufacturing, and is responsible for programming (machining/forming/robot) depending on focus/assignment. The position also involves assisting with the design and approval of tool designs for critical processing, capturing process information, providing estimating support, analyzing and improving existing machining operations, leading root cause analysis, collaborating with other teams, supporting new product introductions, performing observation/time studies, reviewing QA supplied control plans, creating visual instructions, analyzing technology needs, assisting maintenance with troubleshooting, assisting with schedules and project status updates, evaluating nonconformance reports, developing PFMEAs, organizing and evaluating process and cost data, managing drawings and data sets, evaluating new technologies, participating in presentations, and maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment. The role also includes team responsibilities such as having a daily presence on the manufacturing floor and supporting other divisional business units.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of experience in a manufacturing or machining environment
  • Strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and continuous improvement methodologies
  • Proficient in CNC machining, GD&T, cutting tool technology, and metalworking principles
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and project management tools (e.g., MS Project)
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn other software
  • Reliable transportation

  • High level of confidentiality and professionalism when interacting with clients & vendors
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Developing and documenting CNC and manual machining processes
  • Hands-on development, troubleshooting, CNC programming, process definition, standard work, tool design & improvement, and process control documentation
  • Acting as the technical liaison between Engineering and Manufacturing
  • Programming (machining/forming/robot) depending on focus/assignment
  • Assisting with design and approval of tool designs for critical processing
  • Capturing process information (ex. tooling/fixturing concepts, rollers, inserts, tool holders, speeds, feeds, etc.) necessary for detailed process definition and control
  • Providing estimating support and input through running process simulations, developing layouts, and tool concepts for costing/quoting
  • Analyzing and improving existing machining operations to reduce cycle time, improve tool life, and enhance part quality
  • Leading root cause analysis and corrective actions for machining-related issues
  • Collaborating with Quality, Materials, and Manufacturing teams to implement new materials, equipment, and technologies
  • Supporting the introduction of new products and equipment, including CNC programming and process validation
  • Performing observation/time studies for developing standards and improving processes for feedback to the Project Engineer
  • Reviewing QA supplied control plans and inspection logs as required
  • Creating visual instructions with process definition and control for safe manufacturing processes such as Process Control documents (PCs), Work Instructions (WI), and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • Analyzing technology and resource needs to plan and assess the feasibility of processes and associated equipment
  • Assisting maintenance with troubleshooting, diagnosis, and repair of machines when necessary
  • Assisting with schedules and project status updates using MS Project for new orders
  • Assisting in evaluating and/or dispositioning nonconformance reports and providing/implementing correction action
  • Assisting with developing PFMEAs where and/or when necessary to mitigate process risk
  • Organizing and evaluating process and cost data (ex. planned vs. actual) to support decision-making activities
  • Managing drawings, data sets, models, part lists, and specifications in accordance with internal controls
  • Evaluating, researching, and providing feedback on new technologies
  • Participating in internal or external presentations related to Engineering topics
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all safety and quality procedures
  • Occasionally visiting clients, vendors, and suppliers
  • Attending meetings and trainings as assigned
  • Completing projects as assigned
  • Having a daily presence on the manufacturing floor to work collaboratively with shop team
  • Supporting other divisional business units as directed by manager
