About The Position

MilliporeSigma is seeking a Process Development Scientist to join the technical branch of its commercial organization in the Midwest. This role will support process development and manufacturing sciences activities, working remotely from locations such as Indianapolis, Chicago, St. Louis, or Minneapolis. The Process Development Scientist will be part of a global team of engineers and scientists, reporting to the technical support group for MilliporeSigma’s Process Solutions business. The position involves leading development studies for the purification of therapeutic proteins using MilliporeSigma technologies, including sterile filtration, depth filtration, tangential flow filtration, viral reduction filtration, and chromatography. Responsibilities include selection and sizing of equipment, process optimization, and tech transfer for new pharmaceuticals, with a focus on Phase I-III development. The role requires providing customer consultations via various communication channels, collaborating with customer process development groups in the Central United States, and partnering with local MilliporeSigma account managers to deliver technical expertise. Additionally, the scientist will support clinical and commercial scale implementations using sound engineering principles, identify Critical Quality Attributes (CQAs), and maintain critical control parameters. This role also involves documenting customer interactions in electronic systems, proposing new technical ideas, and contributing to cross-functional strategy execution. The position requires up to 30% travel within the North America region.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or other Life Science discipline and 3+ years of experience within pharmaceutical development, technology implementation, or protein or viral particle purification
• Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or other Life Science discipline and 2+ years of experience within pharmaceutical development, technology implementation, or protein or viral particle purification
• PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or other Life Sciences discipline and 1+ years of experience within pharmaceutical development, technology implementation, or protein or viral particle purification

• An in-depth knowledge and understanding of bioprocess unit operations
• Ability to derive relevant conclusions, based on the experimental results, and effectively communicate this to our customers
• Excellent hands on laboratory skills, working knowledge of Microsoft Excel or other data analysis software
• Sound understanding of downstream and/or upstream biomanufacturing process requirements, best practices, and industry standards
• Comfort with making recommendations for future course of action based on experimental results
• Ability to relay relevant results to sales, field marketing, etc.

• Support clinical and commercial scale implementations using sound engineering principles, including identifying CQAs and maintaining critical control parameters
• Document customer interfacing activities in electronic systems; propose new technical ideas for the broader group and contribute to cross-functional strategy execution
