Process Development Engineer, Additive Manufacturing

Hadrian Automation•Los Angeles, CA
•$135,000 - $200,000

About The Position

Hadrian is hiring a Process Development Engineer for its Additive Manufacturing team. The role is the technical resource for developing, iterating, and automating additive manufacturing processes, with a primary focus on metals. The engineer will connect materials, processes, and in-process monitoring, helping build and refine tools and workflows that make additive capabilities faster and more scalable. The position leads process and parameter development, defines process windows through designed experiments, and advances machine, material, and process readiness. It also drives adoption of in-situ monitoring, statistical process control, and digital traceability; develops or implements software and automated workflows; and researches new technologies for process development. The engineer works with materials engineering to validate and introduce parameters and processes into production, while collaborating across applications, materials, systems, software, and welding engineering. The role requires a master’s degree in an engineering discipline, at least three years of additive manufacturing process and parameter development experience, and hands-on experience with additive equipment and software. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency is specified as required for ITAR compliance. The target salary range is $135,000–$200,000. Benefits listed for full-time employees include medical, dental, vision, and life insurance; a 401(k); possible relocation support; a flexible vacation policy; and equity.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in an engineering discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience developing and optimizing additive manufacturing parameters and processes, with a strong focus on metal processes.
  • Hands-on experience with additive manufacturing equipment and software, including build processors or process simulation tools.
  • Experience building or improving automated workflows, scripting, or tooling to accelerate process or parameter development.
  • Ability to work with materials engineering to translate new materials into validated, production-ready processes.
  • Comfort working in an undefined space and building new processes and tools rather than relying on established norms.
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident required for ITAR compliance.

Nice To Haves

  • Extensive experience with laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) as the primary process, with directed energy deposition (DED) experience as a secondary strength.
  • Background in aerospace, aviation, defense, energy, or similar industries with high specification requirements.
  • Experience with in-situ process monitoring and using its data to inform parameter development.
  • Programming or scripting experience, such as Python, used to automate engineering workflows.
  • Familiarity with specialized material standards, certification requirements, or quality systems such as NADCAP, AMS7000 series, AS9100, and relevant ASTM/AMS additive manufacturing specifications.
  • Familiarity with fracture control classification of components and associated qualification requirements.
  • Prior support of production scale-up in high-rate manufacturing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead process and parameter development for additive manufacturing, primarily metals.
  • Execute designed experiments (DOEs) to define and measure process windows and drive machine, material, and process readiness.
  • Drive adoption of in-situ monitoring, statistical process control, and digital traceability records.
  • Build internal software tools or evaluate and implement market tools to accelerate parameter development and process automation.
  • Research, evaluate, and introduce tools and technologies that strengthen process development capabilities.
  • Design and build automated workflows and methods to validate and implement processes efficiently.
  • Develop parameters for specific part geometries and to address platform-specific challenges.
  • Work with materials engineering to roll out, validate, and implement new parameters and processes in production.
  • Collaborate with applications, materials, systems, software, and welding engineers.

Benefits

  • Medical insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Life insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Relocation support may be provided in certain situations, based on business need.
  • Flexible vacation policy
  • Equity
