OVERVIEW Marathon Petroleum Company’s Illinois Refining Division in Robinson, IL is seeking a Process Design Engineer III/Senior Process Design Engineer. This position’s primary function is to contribute to refinery/ organizational proc ess optim ization and proje ct deve lopmen t . Thi s inclu des identifying opportunities and develop ing projects to increase throughput, enha nce yields , i mprove reliability, and optimize energy or w ater use in process units. This position reports to the Process Optimization & Growth Manager. Relocation is approved for this position. K EY RESPONSIBILITIES Contributes to refinery/organizational long-term strategy development and identifies opportunities to increase throughput, en hanc e yields, impr ove reliability and optimize energy and w ater use in process units. Develops process designs for new projects and unit modifications, including PFDs, P&IDs, and heat/material balances. Performs process simulations and calculations to support equipment sizing, hydraulic analysis, and energy optimization as well as lead economic analysis and establish project rate of return. Collaborates with project engineers, operations, and external vendors to ensure alignment of design with operational needs. Prepares process design packages and support HAZOPs, LOPA studies, and other safety reviews. Provides technical leadership during project execution, including design reviews, construction support, and commissioning. Stays current with industry standards and best practices to ensure high-quality, cost-effective designs. Serves as a mentor for less experienced engineers.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering
Four (4) years of process engineering experience within refining or heavy industry
Valid driver’s license
Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery and be able to physically perform all tasks in the field
