About The Position

This position is for a Process Controls Engineer working hybrid out of Texas City, TX. The role is part of Air Products' Americas Operations Central Engineering - HyCO Process Controls Engineering group. The engineer will work closely with operating facilities as an authority in DCS, SIS, and PLC automation system build and support, providing mentorship on instrumentation and control devices to ensure safe plant operations and product delivery. The role involves working on industrial process control and safety instrumented systems for capital projects, standards, plant production initiatives, and reliability improvement efforts, collaborating with regional process controls engineers, plant process engineers, area managers, site supervisors, and operating staff. The position offers flexible hybrid remote/onsite work accommodation. Travel is mostly local within the Houston region, with infrequent travel to other North American Air Products locations, expected to be around 5% of the time outside the region.

Requirements

  • Chemical, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering degree.
  • 3+ years of experience in process automation systems and/or instrumentation engineering.
  • Must maintain a Valid Drivers' License, a clean driving record, and the ability to access and safely operate a reliable personal vehicle on an ongoing basis.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the US without current or future sponsorship (e.g. temporary work visa or work permit).
  • Hands-on knowledge of control systems (DCS/PLC).
  • Proficiency and experience with concepts related to level, temperature, pressure, and flow measurement.
  • Fundamental understanding of computer networks.
  • Self-motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Capable of working in a team environment with shared responsibilities.
  • Effective communicator able to present sophisticated problems to a varied audience in a concise and accurate manner across the organization, including customers, vendors, management, and site personnel.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Siemens PCS7.
  • Some knowledge of field instrumentation, including valves and transmitters.
  • General knowledge of cybersecurity implementation relates to industrial control systems.
  • General knowledge of Safety Instrumented Systems as applicable to Mechanical Integrity.

Responsibilities

  • Supports daily operation of control systems in the context of overall facility operation.
  • Builds and implements changes to improve safety and operability.
  • Conducts root cause analyses internally and with automation vendors.
  • Identifies, completes, and supports improvement projects related to DCS & SIS systems.
  • Responsible for the long-term planning and lifecycle support of control systems with respect to programming, preventive maintenance, and upgrade migrations.
  • Addresses instrumentation and automation system obsolescence.
  • Implements changes to the control logic, HMI, and database, and prepares documentation of these changes.
  • Aligns with local I&E technicians, providing support and leadership for instrument-related fixing.
  • Supplies to the improvement and optimization of existing assets.
  • Drives improvements in plant reliability, cyber security, and cost reduction initiatives.
  • Meets organizational goals for safety.
  • Provide process control systems engineering support for production facility in Texas City, including on-site steam methane reforming (SMR), air separation (ASU), steam turbine, utilities, and ammonia production assets.
  • Over time, learn and supply to multiple facilities located in the Houston area.
