DWM Process Control Engineer SCADA - (AIM)

About The Position

Designs, develops, installs, and maintains process control systems. This is the senior-level engineering position. The job involves supporting watershed operations, SCADA activities, assisting with SCADA-related break-fix tasks, maintaining and enhancing SCADA documentation, ensuring contractors adhere to watershed SCADA guidelines and procedures, monitoring SCADA-related capital projects, and providing necessary training. Additionally, the role entails maintaining and enhancing safety and non-safety instrumentation and control systems for water and wastewater processes round-the-clock, with familiarity in industry standards such as ISA, IEC, AWWA, and NFPA. This is fully seasoned professional level capable of independently carrying out most assignments typical of the profession. This level would be attainable by multiple incumbents in a work group (not necessarily all) but would not be an automatic promotional level. Works under very general supervision. Depending on organization structure, may work independently with responsibility for an assigned function or program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or BSEE (equivalent professional experience may be considered for substitution for the required degree on an exception basis).
  • Five (5) years of process control experience.
  • Must have some project management or leadership experience.
  • Knowledge of concepts, processes, and tools of the profession.
  • Knowledge of relationships of professional disciples among related organizations and functions.
  • Knowledge of Schneider Electric Foxboro, GE iFix, and Variable frequency drive (VFD).
  • Knowledge of Allen Bradley Contrologix, Ignition HMI, Distributed Control Systems and PLCs, Emerson Ovation, ABB, Foxboro, and Allen Bradley.
  • Skills in organizing and presenting proposals or information.
  • Well-developed technical skills within the profession.
  • Ability to plan and carry out virtually any typical assignment within the professional area.
  • Ability to train others.
  • Ability to build effective relationships within the organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with project and plant employees at all levels.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and activities simultaneously and effectively prioritize.

  • Light work : Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects.
  • Medium work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Responsibilities

  • Designing, developing, installing, and maintaining process control systems and equipment.
  • Managing and maintaining process control systems and equipment and troubleshooting any issues related to control engineering systems, machinery, and processes.
  • Administering the related database and network including report writing.
  • Conducting project planning, cost analysis, and vendor comparisons.
  • Making recommendations to management on system purchases.
  • Providing directions to lower-level associates.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Working independently with responsibility for assigned program.
  • Providing training and/or project leadership to less experienced professionals or support staff.
  • Supervising clerical or support staff.
  • Maintaining DCS and PLC systems, including servers, routers, and switches, and implements necessary solutions.
  • Reviewing and evaluating instrumentation and control documentation associated with plant and capital projects, such as loop sheets, P&IDs, ladder logic drawings, electrical schematics, and functional diagrams.
  • Maintaining iFix platforms, including virtual servers, physical servers, thin manager, operator workstations, and other platforms essential for plant operations.
  • Overseeing activities of contractors executing SCADA projects.
  • Writing specifications, control narratives, and scopes of work for new control system products.
  • Recommending new SCADA products and solutions.
  • Providing training, as necessary.
  • Assisting operations with creating and delivering SCADA data reports required to evaluate plant performance.
  • Providing break-fix support for DCS and PLC issues.
  • Ensuring documentation and quality control standards are met.
  • Supporting project activities related to SCADA systems.
  • Designing and evaluating new control system products.
