About The Position

Join Marathon Petroleum as a Process Control Engineer at our St. Paul Park refinery, where you will play a key role in improving unit performance through the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of control strategies that drive reliability, stability, and economic results. The position partners with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to solve complex challenges, support safe and reliable operation, and drive continuous improvement. Responsibilities scale from supporting control system performance to leading initiatives and influencing best practices as experience grows.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Computer Engineering
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in process control engineering within refining, petrochemical, or related industries

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Honeywell Experion PKS and/or TDC control systems
  • Experience with alarm management and rationalization processes
  • Experience supporting capital projects and Management of Change (MOC) processes
  • Exposure to advanced process control (APC) applications

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and improve process control strategies to support stable and reliable unit operation
  • Troubleshoot and resolve control system issues, including DCS, instrumentation, and network components
  • Work closely with Operations, Maintenance, and Engineering to resolve operational challenges and improve unit performance; develop strong working relationships with console operators
  • Support and/or lead Management of Change (MOC) activities for control system modifications
  • Participate in and/or lead incident investigations and root cause analyses related to control system performance and reliability
  • Develop and maintain documentation including control narratives, cause-and-effect diagrams, alarm rationalization records, and system architecture drawings
  • Support turnaround planning and execution, including scope development and post-event evaluation
  • Define and support control system scope for capital projects and ensure integration with existing infrastructure and standards
  • Support and maintain advanced process control (APC) applications; identify opportunities to improve process stability and economic performance
  • Provide technical guidance and share knowledge across the team, with increasing responsibility for mentoring and leadership as experience grows
