About The Position

AtkinsRéalis US Nuclear is the subsidiary of AtkinsRéalis focused on serving government and commercial clients in the U.S. nuclear sector. It delivers engineering, operations, and project management services to legacy and new-build nuclear clients designing, building, upgrading, operating, and maintaining nuclear power generation and fuel cycle assets. The business draws on its U.S. government fuel cycle work, international position as an original equipment manufacturer and nuclear reactor technology provider, and experience with worldwide nuclear new-build projects and legacy fleet maintenance. The Process/Chemical Engineer executes small modular reactor and nuclear fuel cycle facility projects. The position develops system architecture, flow diagrams, and piping and instrumentation diagrams for nuclear facilities, auxiliary systems, or fuel cycle models, and evaluates systems, structures, and components for chemical safety, criticality controls, radiation shielding, and defense-in-depth under normal, off-normal, and accident conditions. Designs must comply with applicable local, state, and federal requirements, including DOE or NRC regulations, and relevant customer and nuclear quality assurance standards. The role develops process drawings, process flow diagrams, and process and instrumentation or engineering flow diagrams; prepares, checks, or approves mass, energy, and flow balances and pipe and equipment sizing calculations; and prepares process equipment specifications. It evaluates test and validation data, specifies components for regulated and hazardous environments, resolves technical issues, and ensures change control is implemented. The engineer also checks the quality and presentation of design deliverables and helps ensure consultants and subcontractors provide suitably qualified and experienced personnel. Other duties may be assigned. This is a remote position based out of the Oak Ridge, Tennessee office.
