Probation/Pretrial Officer
About The Position
The Department of Community Corrections is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Pretrial/Probation Officer to supervise pretrial defendants referred from the Magistrate and/or Loudoun County Courts and individuals placed on probation by the General District and Circuit Court(s) within Loudoun County. Duties will include supervising pretrial defendants and probationers charged with felony and/or misdemeanor charges referred by the Courts. The selected candidate will be responsible for conducting both pretrial and probation intakes, supervising pretrial defendants and probation offenders, performing criminal history record/background checks and risk assessments, administering drug tests, collaborating with the Electronic Monitoring Team to enhance supervision, conducting substance abuse assessments to include making appropriate referrals, confirming performance of community service work, monitoring restitution, collaborating with treatment providers, preparing and submitting reports and investigations attending Court for bond hearings, arraignments, revocation and progress reviews, testifying as required. This position will be permanently stationed at the Department’s Satellite Office at the Eastern Loudoun Service Center, located at 21641 Ridgetop Circle in Sterling. Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.
Requirements
- Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or related field.
- A minimum of two years of work-related experience within the criminal justice or counseling field.
- A valid operator’s license.
- Successful candidate must undergo and complete a criminal background check.
- Annual DMV record check will be required.
- Must be willing to supervise pretrial defendants and/or probationers in an office setting and perform occasional residential visits, as needed.
- Must be willing to work with individuals with violent tendencies.
- Must be willing to monitor and collect urine samples and alcohol breath tests to detect illegal drug or alcohol use.
- Must have strong writing skills and be able to compile facts and information into concise and accurate reports for submission to the Court.
- The candidate will be able to work in conjunction with both the Probation and Pretrial divisions within the Community Corrections Department.
- VCIN-B certification is required; selected candidate will obtain certification within 90 days of hire.

- Spanish proficiency preferred.
- Strong communication skills to professionally interact with representatives from the legal community such as Commonwealth’s Attorneys, Police Officers, Defense Attorneys, Judges and Court Personnel.
