About The Position

The Department of Community Corrections is seeking qualified and motivated applicants to join our innovative Probation Division as a full-time Probation Officer. Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or related field, and a minimum of two (2) years related experience in the criminal justice field
• Must undergo and complete a criminal background and DMV record check
• Must be willing to supervise probationers in an office setting and perform occasional home visits
• Must be willing to work with criminal offenders, some of whom have violent histories
• Must have strong writing skills
• Must have strong communication skills

Nice To Haves

• Experience working with criminally-involved substance abusing individuals
• Strong background/knowledge/education in substance abuse, addiction, mental health and appropriate services/treatments

Responsibilities

• Supervising defendants
• Submitting reports
• Testifying in Court
• Establishing and monitoring community service work for program participants
• Administering drug tests
• Assuring that all special conditions of the Court are fulfilled
• Regular attendance at court proceedings
• Maintaining accurate automated PSLP case management notes and case files
• Performing substance abuse assessments and referrals
• Supervising offenders sentenced in the Circuit and General District Courts
• Performing occasional home visits
• Collection of samples for urinalysis
• Administration of alcohol breath tests
• Compiling facts and information into concise reports for submission to the Court
• Interacting with representatives from the legal community such as Commonwealth's Attorneys, law enforcement, defense attorneys, and court personnel
• Working as part of a team within the Community Corrections Department
