About The Position

Under the direction of a Senior Probation Officer and Manager, you will be responsible for delivering a broad range of community corrections programs and services to adult and young offenders. You will ensure compliance of offenders with Supervision Orders issued by the Courts and engage with community stakeholders. Working through the effective framework of case management, you will use your skills to appropriately assess, formulate case plans, and apply Effective Practices in Community Supervision (EPICS) to support client behaviour change. Using your advanced interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), you will conduct investigations, prepare reports, and attend court as required. In the community, you will conduct field visits and liaise with local Police, Courts, and Correctional Centres as required. You will build and maintain positive relationships with community counselling and programming resources, working with systematic barriers that affect individuals and community, and will promote a positive image of probation in the community. Superior time management and prioritization skills are imperative to effectively complete case management activities.

  • Thorough knowledge of applicable legislation, as well as the ability to follow and apply policy.
  • Knowledge and ability in working with socially marginalized individuals and victims of trauma or intergenerational abuse as well as working with a trauma informed approach.

  • Own transportation to travel into the community to collaborate with community stakeholders.

  • Correctional Service Worker 1: Two-year diploma in a related field plus two years related experience; or equivalent as described.
  • Correctional Service Worker 1: A related one year certificate and three years of related experience.
  • Correctional Service Worker 1: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of one year of education for one year of experience; or one year of experience for one year of education.
  • Correctional Service Worker 2: University graduation in a related field plus 2 years related experience; or equivalent as described below.
  • Correctional Service Worker 2: Two year diploma in a related field plus 4 years related experience; OR
  • Correctional Service Worker 2: Completion of the in-service Criminal Justice Certificate plus 5 years related experience (applicable only to employees who have completed the certificate prior to it being discontinued on December 31, 2017).
  • Related diplomas or degrees in the following fields will be considered: Sociology, Psychology, Social Work, Youth Work, Correctional Services, Justice Studies, Applied Justice, Criminology.
  • Related work experience will be considered if it includes relevant casework responsibilities, such as completing casework or delivering programming services (e.g., behavior management planning, supporting vulnerable populations, behavior intervention, rehabilitation, or addiction-related support).
  • Reliable transportation and a valid Class 5 Driver’s License is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in Community Corrections or providing case management with vulnerable populations.
  • Experience in completing casework/ programming services (example: behaviour management planning, community corrections programs).
  • Expertise with computer programs such as ORCA and JOIN as well as familiarity with court documents.
