About The Position

The Kentucky Department of Corrections is hiring Probation and Parole Officers to contribute to community safety and offenders’ re-entry into society. Officers supervise and counsel offenders, coordinate ongoing supervision plans, and perform duties required by the court system and Parole Board. The role involves working with convicted felons and may involve hazardous situations, including arresting or transporting violators to appropriate authorities. Officers must meet applicable federal and state laws concerning firearms and ammunition, carry or use a firearm as required, and successfully complete agency-approved firearms safety training.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or qualifying experience or current/prior military experience substituted for education on a year-for-year basis as described in the posting.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must not be prohibited under applicable federal or state law from purchasing, receiving, or possessing firearms or ammunition while employed in this classification.
Must demonstrate firearm competence by successfully completing required firearms safety training courses offered or approved by the hiring agency.
Must maintain any required licenses, certifications, or other credentials for the duration of employment.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Motivated and self-directed.
Ability to solve problems involving offender issues such as addiction, behavior, family, housing, and employment.
Reasoning ability to solve problems, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in a fast-paced environment.
