About The Position

Whitman-Walker Institute is seeking a Research Nurse-PRN to support full-time research staff. Position requires performing blood draws (from indwelling catheter and peripheral), administration of IV medications on study participants, and knowledge and ability to follow study research procedures and protocols in the outpatient setting.

Requirements

  • Licensure Registered Nurse (BSN preferred) in the District of Columbia required.
  • Two-year clinical experience post RN licensure required
  • Minimum of one year experience with medication infusion and IV placement with in the last 3 years

Nice To Haves

  • One-year Clinical trial experience preferred
  • Two years of experience working with people living with HIV/AIDS or issues related to HIV disease and treatment preferred
  • Knowledge of general protocols for clinical trials and related programs, specifically as relates to the duties of the medical provider and ethical standards in communicating with patients strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Administer informed consent to volunteers, obtaining volunteer history, reviewing volunteer medical records, and administering medication ordered by an advanced practice practitioner or physician
  • Perform EKGs, phlebotomy, urinalysis, blood/plasma processing and shipping
  • Perform hep-lock placement, IV access and infusion, injection administration per study protocol
  • Obtain and maintain CITI training and any other training required for human subjects research and study specific research protocols
  • Accurately complete source documents and performs data entry and reviews all quality control and quality assurance processes as needed per protocol
  • Assist with preparation and maintenance of written standard operating procedures (SOPs) for processes followed by Whitman-Walker Institute research staff to ensure compliance with all federal/state/sponsor regulations and guidelines
  • Support study-related regulatory responsibilities in coordination with research staff
  • Coordinate and train new project staff on clinical study and department SOPs, processes, and protocols as needed
  • Conducts study participant recruitment and retention activities, including prescreening potential volunteers, outreach and community engagement, scheduling study visits, maintaining recruitment records, and supporting enrollment goals in accordance with IRB requirements, study protocols, and regulatory guidelines
