About The Position

The PRN MRI Technologist is accountable for positioning and immobilization of patients, selecting proper technical factors, and performing computer reformatting of acquired data to obtain magnetic resonance scans of optimal quality. This role also involves operating support equipment, transferring patients, preparing them for examinations by explaining procedures and answering questions, and initiating IVs for contrast media administration. The technologist is responsible for securing pertinent patient history, maintaining safety standards (magnetic, radiation, fire, and universal precautions), documenting patient statistics, supplies, billing information, and preserving patient records. Additionally, they must stay updated on advancements in MRI technology, attend inservices and educational seminars, and share new techniques with colleagues. Maintaining good relations with internal and external customers is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • 3 years general radiology experience
  • ARRT Registry
  • Basic knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and usual CT procedures.

  • Ability to be flexible in starting times to meet demands. (weekend rotation and flexible hours.)

  • This position will need to recognize needs and behaviors of a variety of age groups of patients treated, i.e., understand child growth and development, normal patterns of adolescent behavior and look for signs of normal aging.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.

Responsibilities

  • Selects appropriate technical factors on an individual patient and procedural basis to provide optimal quality examinations.
  • Performs post processing of computer data to enhance data and image information.
  • Operates support equipment for MRI, such as satellite console, additional disc drives, power injector, imaging formatters, and laser cameras.
  • Transfers patients to and from MRI scanning table and prepares patient for examination by explaining procedure and answering any questions patient may have.
  • Initiates IVs for administration of contrast media for MRI enhancement in accordance with departmental policy and utilizing universal precautions.
  • Assists in obtaining confidential history of patient, which includes allergy screening to ensure appropriateness of patient for examination as well as ensuring the administration of contrast agents during required procedures.
  • Maintains magnetic and radiation safety standards.
  • Maintains fire safety standards.
  • Maintains knowledge of department Code 10-2 policy.
  • Maintains knowledge of departmental disaster, evacuation and quench policies.
  • Maintains and constantly implements universal and infectious safety standards.
  • Maintains documentation of equipment malfunctions and Preventative Maintenance.
  • Attends mandatory inservices.
  • Documents confidential patient’s history to ensure appropriateness of patient for examination.
  • Documents patients charge data, modifying and initiating charges as procedure modifications are made per the radiologist.
  • Documents any allergic reaction, incident report regarding staff or patient situations.
  • Provides timely information for inventory of supplies.
  • Ensures all films are properly identified and numbered for each patient according to current department procedures for accurate interpretation by radiologist.
  • Assists in scheduling of examinations and documenting complete.
  • Responsible for attending inservices and educational seminars when appropriate.
  • Responsible for sharing with other technologists new techniques learned, as well as working with students when required.
  • Relating with Internal Customers – fellow staff members, physicians.
  • Relating with External Customers – ancillary departments, inpatients/outpatients, and family members.
