About The Position

This position is responsible for obtaining, labeling, and delivering laboratory specimens according to universal precaution standards. The technician will prioritize, perform, and report laboratory test results within established time frames and procedures. They will also recognize factors affecting measurements and results, taking appropriate action. This role involves performing and documenting troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, quality control, proficiency testing, calibrations, and problem-solving activities to meet regulatory requirements. The technician will recognize abnormal results and refer them to appropriate personnel, displaying professionalism in all interactions with patients, physicians, co-workers, and other departments. Participation in team-oriented decision-making and observation of opportunities for improvement are also key aspects of this role. Additionally, the technician will serve as a role model for new employees and adhere to all hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including those related to safety, environmental control, infection control, and quality assurance. This role also requires adherence to Clarke County Hospital (CCH) Performance Criteria, including demonstrating hospital standards of behavior, maintaining reliable attendance, and keeping current licenses and certifications. The employee must be knowledgeable of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies, and complete all annual education and competency requirements. Understanding of compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs regarding fraud, waste, and abuse is also necessary.

Requirements

  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.

Responsibilities

  • Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures; including (but not limited to) objectives related to safety, environmental, infection control, and quality assurance. Participates in educational programs as required.
  • Demonstrates Clarke County Hospital Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to hospital policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
