About The Position

This position is responsible for obtaining, labeling, and delivering laboratory specimens while adhering to universal precaution standards. The technician will prioritize, perform, and report laboratory test results within established time frames and procedures. They will also recognize factors affecting measurements and results, taking appropriate action. This role involves performing and documenting troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, quality control, proficiency testing, calibrations, and problem-solving activities to meet regulatory requirements. The technician will recognize abnormal results and refer them to appropriate personnel, displaying professionalism in all interactions with patients, physicians, co-workers, and other departments. Participation in team-oriented decision-making and communication of improvement ideas to the supervisor are expected. The role also includes serving as a role model for new employees and adhering to hospital and departmental policies and procedures, including those related to safety, environmental, infection control, and quality assurance. Educational programs are required as needed. Basic Clarke County Hospital (CCH) Performance Criteria include demonstrating CCH Standards of Behaviors, hospital policies, and safety guidelines; meeting business needs with reliable attendance; maintaining current licenses and certifications; practicing and reflecting knowledge of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA, and other regulatory agencies; completing annual education and competency requirements; and understanding compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs, reporting any concerns appropriately.

Requirements

  • Maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.
  • Practices and reflects knowledge of HIPAA, DIA, DNV, OSHA and other federal/state regulatory agencies guiding healthcare.
  • Completes all annual education and competency requirements within the calendar year.
  • Is knowledgeable of hospital and department compliance requirements for federally funded healthcare programs (e.g. Medicare and Medicaid) regarding fraud, waste and abuse.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates Clarke County Hospital Standards of Behaviors as well as adheres to hospital policies and procedures and safety guidelines.
  • Demonstrates ability to meet business needs of department with regular, reliable attendance.
  • Employee maintains current licenses and/or certifications required for the position.

Brings any questions or concerns regarding compliance to the immediate attention of hospital administrative staff. Takes appropriate action on concerns reported by department staff related to compliance.
