Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in nursing required.
  • 3-4 years of Medical/Surgical or Intensive Care experience.
  • Current Texas RN (or BNE Compact State) license required. Upon Hire.
  • BASIC LIFE SUPPORT course accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC). Upon Hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs and documents physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments, considering age-specific criteria.
  • Anticipates patient and/or patient's family's expectations and needs, utilizing them to develop an appropriate plan of care.
  • Maintains and utilizes competencies per unit expectations.
  • Utilizes critical thinking skills in planning and prioritizing nursing care.
  • Identifies and implements appropriate nursing interventions based on assessment and completes documentation.
  • Coordinates interdisciplinary plan of care and confers with healthcare team members.
  • Prioritizes nursing interventions based on assessment, identifies changes in condition, and takes appropriate follow-up action.
  • Evaluates implemented interventions and modifies care accordingly, documenting all changes.
  • Adheres to policies, procedures, clinical pathways, and nationally accepted standards of nursing practice.
  • Suggests practices to enhance nursing care based on current literature and research.
  • Provides answers and/or education to patients and/or families, completing documentation of all education provided.
  • Ensures comfort level of post-discharge care and demonstrates effective communication with all age groups.
  • Welcomes and orients patient and family to the unit, encouraging participation in care.
  • Reviews plan of care with patient and family, explains diets, tests, procedures, and medications.
  • Makes rounds on patients.
  • Reports errors promptly and takes appropriate follow-up action.
  • Provides supervision of and direction to unlicensed support personnel and nurses new to the unit.
  • Delegates duties appropriately and within legal parameters.
  • Responds to patient's and/or family's complaints in an appropriate and effective manner.
  • Reports complaints to Clinical Nurse Manager or designee in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes chain of command to resolve issues.
  • Serves as an advocate to patient and family.
  • Participates in performance improvement activities as directed.
  • Attends at least 80% of scheduled staff meetings and 100% of mandatory educational sessions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
