Provides patient care as assigned and per routine, according to standards of care, shift routines, and policies and procedures. Answers call lights in a timely and appropriate manner, documents care provided according to standards, and maintains a clean work and patient environment. This role involves maintaining supplies, stocking new supplies, and disposing of expired or damaged supplies. The position also processes orders accurately and timely, answers the telephone and call lights appropriately, provides information or relays messages, and directs visitors. Responsibilities include maintaining medical records of current patients, processing patient charges, and ordering supplies as needed. The role also participates in department or unit performance improvement activities. Specific procedures include performing 12-Lead EKGs, starting IVs, performing venipunctures, assisting ED MDs with intubation by gathering equipment, performing CPR and placing the Lucas on patients during resuscitations, performing splint applications, assisting with chest tube insertions by gathering supplies/equipment, performing BGMs, and transporting non-monitored patients to inpatient units.
