About The Position

Assists physicians and/or registered nurses in transitioning patients from registration to receipt of services from professional and technical personnel. The role includes gathering patient histories and initial information, taking measurements, performing laboratory tests and screenings, documenting services, and supporting clinic operations. Work is primarily inside a clinic or community setting. A drug screening test and background check may be required under agency policy.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
A drug screening test and background check may be required according to agency policy.

Responsibilities

Interview patients to obtain information for new medical records or update existing files.
Explain department services and answer patient questions.
Perform laboratory tests according to departmental procedures and policy, including hematocrit, blood sugar, urinalysis, and pregnancy testing.
Take patient measurements, including weight, height, blood pressure, and head measurement.
Administer developmental and PASE assessments and conduct vision and hearing screenings.
Document activities and services in patient medical records.
Counsel patients regarding department services.
Order supplies and stock clinic examination rooms with materials needed by staff.
Answer telephone calls and direct them to the appropriate person.
May administer the department’s car seat program, including instructing patients on seat belt use, accounting for rental fees when applicable, and explaining car seat restraints.
Collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
