About The Position

This PRN Clinical Assessment Specialist role involves performing assessment, admissions, and financial functions for potential patients/clients. The specialist will conduct initial telephone screenings, arrange for medical records, and ensure patients meet program criteria. They will also complete the admission process, conduct initial assessments, and manage financial aspects including assessing viability, interpreting insurance benefits, and collecting finances. The role requires proficiency in specific software and office equipment, while maintaining strict confidentiality and privacy of patient information. Additionally, the specialist will participate in team activities, represent the program professionally, and perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited program in the behavioral healthcare field or an RN with a BSN (Preferred)
  • LMSW, LCSW, RN, LPC or LCSW (Required License/Certification)
  • Minimum 4 years direct patient care experience in a behavioral health setting (Required)
  • Related admissions experience (Required)
  • Proficient in Cerner, TIER, and Xferall
  • Able to use office equipment
  • Able to type while talking

Nice To Haves

  • Cerner or experience with electronic charts.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts initial telephone screening of potential patients/clients to determine appropriate placement in various programs.
  • Provides information to clients and families to help them decide about treatment, prepare for admission, and understand what to expect.
  • Answers questions about all treatment programs.
  • Ensures patients/clients meet program criteria.
  • Arranges for obtaining outside medical records in a timely, efficient manner.
  • Alerts clinical and other staff to any special problems that might affect treatment.
  • Completes admission process efficiently and accurately, reviewing documents with the client regarding rights, responsibilities, consents, and releases.
  • Meets with patients on admission to conduct initial assessment.
  • Prioritizes patient/client needs related to patient/client orientation.
  • Assesses financial viability for admission.
  • Understands and utilizes insurance language and interprets benefit information with detailed documentation.
  • Collects finances bi-weekly or as needed.
  • Works cooperatively with the UM department and Finance department.
  • Proficient in Cerner, TIER, and Xferall.
  • Able to use office equipment.
  • Able to type while talking.
  • Protects the confidentiality of patients/clients.
  • Protects the privacy of all client information in accordance with company policies, procedures, and federal and state law.
  • Accesses protected health information (PHI) and other patient information only to the extent necessary to complete job duties.
  • Shares information only with those who have a need to know specific client information to complete their job responsibilities.
  • Participates in team work.
  • Represents the program to referral sources, potential clients, and other outside individuals and agencies in a courteous, professional manner.
  • Accepts delegated assignments.
  • Acts as the liaison between Admissions and all of the Menninger programs.
  • Is an active participant in team meetings.
  • Willing to adjust work schedule and/or hours to meet business needs.
  • Performs other duties when needed.
