About The Position

Tampa General Behavioral Health Hospital, operated jointly with Lifepoint Health and Tampa General Hospital, is seeking an Assessment Specialist RN to join their team. This role is crucial in facilitating the entire service request process, from initial response and assessment to referral, level of care determination, admission, and follow-up. The ideal candidate will conduct initial evaluations, document patient status, and provide essential information for medical determination of the level of care. This position emphasizes excellent customer service, a thorough understanding of Emergency Detention and EMTALA processes, and meticulous maintenance of admission paperwork and insurance pre-certifications. The role also involves monitoring patient condition changes and responding appropriately, including physician notification, and adhering to hospital policies for medication administration and patient interaction with empathy and respect.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree in Nursing Required or Master's degree in Social Work/Counseling required.
  • Current clinical, social work, or RN license as required by state regulations.
  • CPR certification and Crisis Prevention Training (CPI) within 30 days of employment and prior to any patient contact.
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in a psychiatric health care facility, with direct experience working with chemical dependency, dual diagnosis, psychiatric and geriatric patients preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates response to a request for services, including the initial response, the assessment, the referral process, the designation of the appropriate level of care, admission into services, and appropriate follow-up activity.
  • Conducts initial evaluation, initiates the assessment, documents patient symptomology, functioning, and needs, and provides information to MD for LOC determination.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in assisting patients, physicians, visitors, and coworkers promptly and courteously.
  • Possess clear knowledge of Emergency Detention paperwork and processes and EMTALA.
  • Maintains all preadmission and admission paperwork with accuracy and completes all pre-certification with insurance companies.
  • Will monitor patient for change of condition and respond accordingly up to and including notification of the physician.
  • RN will follow hospital policy for medication administration.
  • RN will consistently use empathy, dignity, and respect when interacting with patients.
  • Assists/performs comprehensive nursing assessments on all patients.
