PRN Chemo Infusion Registered Nurse - MUSCP

This position is located primarily in our Infusion area, with both oncology and non-oncology infusions. Requirements
- A minimum of one (1) year of work experience as a Registered Nurse required.
- Licensure as a registered nurse by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with IV insertion is preferred.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provides professional nursing care to assigned patients in need of intravenous treatment.
- Administers intravenous therapeutic treatments as directed by a physician.
- Determines appropriate venipuncture and/or catheter site.
- Observes patients' IV treatment and records observations in patient medical records.
- Provides information to patients and families regarding intravenous treatment and procedures.
- Coordinates care for infusion patients.
- Functions as a liaison between registration staff and clinical staff to facilitate the efficient flow of patients throughout the system.
- Confers with physicians regarding need, urgency, and appropriateness of infusion and clinic visits, ancillaries if needed.
- Assesses and reviews physician orders to assist with scheduling patients in a timely fashion.
- Manages comprehensive nursing care for patients whose needs range from uncomplicated to complex and rapidly changing.
- Assesses subtle changes in patient status; anticipates problems before they occur and implement measures to minimize risk.
- Organizes and prioritizes nursing care activities considering the needs of the patients and other staff members.
- Initiates/facilitates/collaborates with all members of the interdisciplinary team to improve care delivered to the patients to ensuring that appropriate referrals are made and completed.
- Coordinates and manages care by applying analytical reasoning, reflection, rational problem solving skills, using evidence based information and clinical judgment.
- Functions as a patient/family advocate.
- Collaborates with physicians to monitor, evaluate and trend patient responses to treatments during duration of status as a patient.
- Work with support staff to maximize efficiency in infusion scheduling.
- Document all patient care activities in the electronic medical record to include disposition of patient telephone calls, medication list, etc.
- Generates ancillary requests in practice partner and updates medicines as needed in EMR (electronic medical record).
- Participates in performance improvement /research activities designed to improve patient care, and/or organizational processes.
