About The Position

As the Ministry of Forestry and Parks, we are responsible for fostering Alberta’s environmentally responsible forest management practices, including management of wildfires. We preserve our provincial parks for the recreation and enjoyment of Albertans, as well as enabling access to public lands for recreational and commercial purposes while prioritizing conservation. Forestry and Parks also manage public lands and balances sustainable rangelands and grazing leases for Alberta producers. As a Priority Issues Coordinator, you’ll play a critical role in delivering on departmental mandates while helping shape informed, strategic responses to emerging priorities. The Priority Issues Coordinator (PIC) is a central pillar in supporting the Forestry Division’s Executive Advisor and Leadership Team. This role ensures that key division initiatives, action requests, and issues are tracked, coordinated, and resolved efficiently. Acting as a liaison across executive leadership, branch teams, and external stakeholders, the PIC ensures timely issue management, accurate reporting, and consistent communication. This is a highly visible and impactful role that contributes directly to risk management and the successful delivery of corporate and operational priorities.

Requirements

  • University graduation in a related field, such as public administration plus 4 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.
  • Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

Responsibilities

  • Reviewing and developing briefing materials, action requests, and correspondence to ensure clarity, accuracy, and alignment with strategic priorities.
  • Supporting Action Request Tracking System (ARTS) processes by coordinating responses and determining appropriate courses of action.
  • Monitoring and tracking current and emerging issues to ensure timely resolution and proactive risk management.
  • Communicating outcomes, recommendations, and updates to leadership and stakeholders.
  • Initiating and following up on action items across branches to ensure accountability and progress.
  • Coordinating divisional ATIA requests and ensuring compliance with legislative requirements.
  • Ensuring consistency and quality control in all issue-related documentation and responses.
  • Collaborating with Executive Directors, Directors, and Managers to plan and implement response strategies.
  • Providing backup support to Issues Coordinators and the Executive Advisor, including drafting and assigning action requests.
  • Developing and implementing standardized protocols for issues management across the division.
  • Delivering training and guidance to promote continuous improvement in issues coordination practices.
  • Preparing situation reports, briefing binders, and performance metrics related to issues management.
  • Coordinating information across departments, agencies, and stakeholders to maintain accurate and integrated issue tracking.
  • Identifying communication gaps or risks in inter-ministry engagement and recommending improvements.
  • Representing the Executive Advisor in meetings and contributing to departmental committees as required.
  • Maintaining organized electronic records and documentation to support transparency and efficiency.
