About The Position

The Prior Authorization Technician is responsible for processing authorizations for orders received by the pharmacy from AON clinics. The role submits and monitors prior authorizations, assists with REMS authorization requirements, and supports appeals, pharmacy operations, staff training, and patient and clinic service.

Requirements

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent education.
Pharmacy technician registration with the Florida Department of Health in good standing.
Valid state driver's license for travel to satellite offices and offsite meetings.
Compliance with the company Driver Safety Operations and Motor Vehicle Records Check Policy.
Medical terminology knowledge and attention to detail.

Nice To Haves

At least two years of experience in retail, specialty, or hospital pharmacy as a pharmacy technician.

Responsibilities

Submit prior authorizations on behalf of physicians and follow up when no response is received.
Monitor each prior authorization through approval or denial and inform patients, staff, and clinics as appropriate.
Assist clinicians in obtaining Celgene authorization and confirmation numbers.
Review and initiate prior authorization appeal services, including first-level appeal reviews.
Coordinate appeal reviews with pharmacy benefit manager medical directors and/or peer-to-peer interviews as required.
Monitor daily activities and provide backup support for PAP, specialty pharmacy follow-ups, benefits verification, and claims adjudication as needed.
Keep current with applicable training and education required to maintain the permit.
Train staff on prior authorization processes.
Handle incoming and outgoing patient calls and emails, route calls to appropriate staff, and answer patient and clinic questions about delivery status, prescription updates, and related matters.
Follow up on specialty pharmacy orders to help ensure efficient processing.
Schedule deliveries.
