About The Position

Under the direction of VP Manufacturing and/or Dept Supervisor, oversees hourly employees to ensure the production of the highest quality products at the lowest possible cost, while meeting company standards for quality and performance, customer specifications and delivery requirements, in accordance with Pregis policies and procedures. The Press Operator must have the technical ability to operate all types of full converting line and finishing equipment within Pregis standards for waste, quality, and productivity. They must understand and adhere to all Standard Operating Procedures, set up and operate all special functions and capabilities with minimal supervision or direction, train other employees when requested or required, and analyze issues to determine and implement solutions. The role also involves providing innovative/creative solutions for opportunities and/or improvements.

Requirements

  • Minimum 1-year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in driving a sit-down forklift.
  • Technical ability to operate all types of full converting line and finishing equipment within Pregis standards for waste, quality, and productivity.
  • Understanding and adherence to all Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ability to set up and operate all special functions and capabilities with minimal supervision or direction.
  • Ability to analyze issues, determine, and implement solutions.
  • Strong inline finishing skill set.
  • Complete understanding and ability to operate all line ancillary equipment.
  • Understanding of tension controls and ancillary equipment.
  • Knowledge of how to web up the line, capable of setting cylinders and plates.
  • Ability to perform minor mechanical repairs and adjustments.
  • Ability to efficiently operate in line systems with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain 100% of standards in productivity, waste and quality standards.
  • Ability to accurately enter all codes for quantities, materials, and times onto required paperwork.
  • Ability to accurately track line counts.
  • Ability to perform necessary functions to operate the line with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish and promote an environment for learning and process improvement.
  • Ability to consistently look for improvements and efficiencies to reduce waste and increase production within quality standards set.
  • Ability to work within all safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and safe work environment.
  • Ability to ensure the maintenance of departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with all safety and work rules and regulations.
  • Ability to interact well between shifts to gain and pass along all information to facilitate a smooth transition without interruption.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates leadership qualities and uses leadership skills to direct crews in the efficient operation of the company’s production equipment.
  • Reads and understands all information on job tickets pertaining to a specific job.
  • Ensures that all necessary components to produce the job are present and does not move forward on any job with conflicting information.
  • Utilizes strong inline finishing skill set to achieve print quality and register equipment to produce required quality and acceptable registration within specified M/R standards.
  • Operates all line ancillary equipment.
  • Effectively sets up and operates all inline equipment (e.g., gluing, labeling, Straub Applicators) as well as rotary cutters with minimal supervision.
  • Understands tension controls and ancillary equipment.
  • Webs up the line and sets cylinders and plates.
  • Performs minor mechanical repairs and adjustments.
  • Efficiently operates in-line systems with minimal supervision.
  • Maintains 100% of standards in productivity, waste, and quality.
