About The Position

Formlabs is seeking a Print Optimization Intern to join the SLA Materials Team for the Winter/Spring 2027 term. This role focuses on developing and testing materials settings for 3D printers to achieve peak performance in areas such as speed, surface quality, and support structures. The intern will evaluate current material setting performance, design and execute experiments, and use results to inform improvements in software or hardware. The position also involves operating high-accuracy measurement equipment to validate projects. This is a full-time, onsite internship in Somerville, MA, running from January to April 2027. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic about 3D printing and eager to gain hands-on experience in the industry.

Requirements

  • Well-organized, good time management, and excellent attention to detail
  • Able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Communicate test results effectively and in a timely manner
  • Experience with data analysis
  • Experience with experimental design
  • Experience working with protocols/SOPs
  • Enthusiastic and interested in 3D printing

Nice To Haves

  • Basic understanding programming and scientific computing, ideally Python and/or Matlab
  • Familiar with mechanical design and CAD modeling (Solidworks/OpenScad/Onshape a plus)
