About The Position

Under limited supervision, provides educational leadership and staff management for an MPS School; provides strategic leadership to maintain a safe, orderly, and productive learning environment for students, staff, parents, and the community; fosters the success of students by facilitating the development, communication, implementation, and evaluation of a shared vision of learning. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: Plans, organizes, evaluates, and directs the implementation of all programs and activities in an MPS School; performs primary liaison duties between the school and the community; performs duties within scope of authority and training; duties may vary according to job assignment. Directs and coordinates school administration, communications, instructional development, classroom evaluation, effectiveness assessment, teacher development, disciplinary actions, student support programs, facilities operations, financial management and budgets, and community relations. Provides leadership to students, staff, parents, and community to establish a safe, positive, learning-centered environment; promotes MPS vision, goals, purpose, cultures, and values; develops and implements plans to maximize the educational, social, and personal development of the students. Directs the staff and functions of the school to meet MPS needs, including staff support and development, performance management, improvement initiatives, and accountability systems. Exercises independent judgment within policy guidelines; identifies and analyzes school and community issues; resolves organizational and attendance issues, student development, and employee relations. Manages assigned staff; assigns programmatic responsibilities and projects; develops schedules, resolves workload and technical issues, and assures that goals are defined and achieved; develops staff skills and training plans, and conducts performance evaluations. Monitors instructional, educational, support, and service programs; evaluates program effectiveness and develops recommendations for improvements and curriculum revisions. Directs administrative functions, including budget, expenditures, records, and facilities management. Monitors and evaluates classes, and assures that the teaching activities meet quality standards; assures compliance with federal and state regulations, North Dakota Department of Public Instruction standards, and MPS policies. Assists students to resolve discipline, attendance, safety, learning, and relationship issues. Assures the effective allocation and utilization of resources; manages contracts for special services. Supports the relationship between the Minot Public School District and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with clients, visitors, and District staff; maintains absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, client records, and District information; follows compliance rules governing child abuse; performs related duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in Education, or related field
  • Five years of teaching experience, including one year of experience as an Assistant Principal
  • A valid North Dakota State Driver’s License
  • Teacher/Educator certification from North Dakota Department of Public Instruction
  • Specific Principal's Credential as defined by Article 67-19 of the North Dakota Administrative Rules
  • Knowledge of MPS organization, operations, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Federal and state policies, rules, and regulations governing the conduct and safety of student programs and facilities in an educational environment, including the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction, and other governing and accrediting agencies.
  • Knowledge of Principles and practices of administrative management, including personnel rules, cost accounting, budgets, payroll, purchasing, planning, contracting, records management, and project management.
  • Knowledge of Techniques and practices for efficient and cost effective management of resources.
  • Knowledge of Legal, ethical and professional rules of conduct for public education administrators.
  • Knowledge of Local community resources, regional community services programs, and regional training programs.
  • Knowledge of Safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards, and safety precautions in public facilities.
  • Skill in Directing and coordinating MPS School operations.
  • Skill in Identifying problems and opportunities, and developing solutions.
  • Skill in Understanding and applying educational standards and procedures, federal and state rules and regulations, and MPS policies and procedures.

Responsibilities
