About The Position

Directs, manages instructional programs, and supervises operations and personnel at the campus level; Provides leadership to ensure high standards of instruction, overseeing compliance with district policies, ensuring the success of instructional programs and implementing processes to ensure student and staff safety.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree
  • Valid Texas Administrator’s Certificate issued by State Board for Educator Certification
  • Certified Texas Teacher Evaluation and Support System (T-TESS) appraiser
  • Five (5) years of experience as a classroom teacher at the appropriate levels
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness
  • Ability to work effectively with students and manage their behavior
  • Background in Positive Behavior Interventions Systems
  • Ability to effectively present information to faculty, staff, and students and to work well with others
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to coordinate budget and personnel
  • Ability to coordinate campus functions; implement policy and procedures; interpret data
  • Clear understanding for state and local policies and procedures regarding DAEP placements
  • Demonstrates regular and prompt attendance to ensure a consistent focus on student learning
  • Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) years of experience as a campus administrator at the elementary and secondary levels preferred
  • Knowledge of child development with an emphasis on adolescent needs

Responsibilities

  • Systematically and continuously monitors instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes; uses these findings for corrective action and improvement.
  • Develops and maintains a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior.
  • Encourages and supports the development and implementation of innovative instructional strategies to achieve identified needs.
  • Is effective in involving the instructional staff in evaluating and selecting instructional materials to meet student learning needs.
  • Provides instructional resources and materials to support teaching staff in accomplishing instructional goals.
  • Uses formal and informal feedback from others to maintain or create a positive school climate.
  • Follows the Individualized Educational Plans, Behavioral Intervention Plans, and Individual Accommodation Plans of assigned students.
  • Provides pre- and post- placement interventions and assistance as requested by administration.
  • Appropriately redirects and addresses student violations of the rules, expectations, and operating procedures by using approved methods for the assigned campus.
  • Requests the involvement of a counselor, principal, diagnostician, police officer, or other professional according to the approved procedures for the assigned campus.
  • Communicates with and counsels home campus administration to ensure correct and appropriate placement of students to the Discipline Alternative Education Program.
  • Demonstrates high expectations of students and staff.
  • Ensures a seamless transition for students returning to their home campus following their Discipline Alternative Education Program placement.
  • Relates to staff, students and parents in ways that convey equality and mutual respect.
  • Models behavior that promotes a positive organizational and school climate.
  • Initiates and supports programs and actions that facilitate a positive, caring climate for learning and an orderly, purposeful environment.
  • Promotes a positive image that supports the mission of the school district.
  • Determines and builds a common vision with staff for school improvement; directs planning activities and implements strategies with staff to ensure attainment of campuses’ mission.
  • Systematically monitors program activities and/or program improvement activities.
  • Uses effective methods in the screening, selection, assignment and orientation of faculty and staff.
  • Uses developmental supervision effectively and comprehensively with all staff by systematically observing instruction, recording observations and regularly conducting formative and summative evaluation conferences.
  • Develops budgets based upon documented program needs, personnel and other fiscal needs; implements programs within budget limits; maintains fiscal control; accurately reports fiscal information.
  • Monitors the use, care and replacement of capital equipment.
  • Manages all school facilities effectively; efficiently supervises their maintenance to ensure clean, orderly and safe buildings and grounds.
  • Works with faculty to determine a student management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances school climate.
  • Ensures that school rules are uniformly observed and that consequences of misconduct are applied equitably to all students.
  • Effectively conducts conferences with parents, students and teachers, concerning school and student issues, conveying both the positive aspects of student behavior, as well as problem areas.
  • Continuously participates in professional development and training programs.
  • Uses the district approved evaluation processes and procedures appropriately and in a timely manner.
  • Uses information provided through formal and informal assessment data in a professional development plan to improve administrative performance.
  • Performs duties in a professional, ethical, and responsible manner.
  • Demonstrates openness and willingness to listen to and communicate effectively with parents and community members and initiates activities to meet identified needs.
  • Demonstrates regular and prompt attendance.
  • Follows district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Participates in professional development, department meetings, and special events as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Supervise, evaluate, and recommend the hiring and firing of staff assigned to campus, including assistant principal(s), teachers, counselor(s), librarian(s), instructional aides, clerical support staff, and custodians.
