About The Position

Youth Villages is seeking a purpose-driven Principal to direct the activities of the campus school within its residential treatment facilities. These facilities serve youth ages 6 to 17 with complex behavioral and mental health challenges across Tennessee and Georgia. The programs offer an intensive treatment model balancing structure and freedom, preparing youth for success outside of residential settings. The Principal will oversee an educational program that includes trauma-informed care, clinical interventions, life skills building, and recreation therapy, with accredited on-campus schools ensuring educational progress. The schools operate year-round with small class sizes ranging from 8 to 15 youth, allowing for individualized attention.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Education (strongly preferred)
  • Bachelor's degree in Education (required)
  • Active certification/license in the applicable state (required)
  • At least 3 years of teaching experience (required)
  • At least 6 months of supervisory experience in an education setting (required)
  • Experience in special education or teaching in a clinical environment (strongly preferred)
  • Experience working with at-risk youth (strongly preferred)
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent written, verbal, and oral skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Ability to maintain a flexible schedule
  • Applicants must be able to participate in physical interventions when necessary
  • Applicants must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, occasionally more than 100 pounds
  • Applicants are required to complete Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) and CPR trainings and pass an agility and strength evaluation
  • Applicants must possess a current, valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Provides development to all education staff
  • Supervises the design and implementation of individual and group educational programs
  • Interviews and recommends hiring of teaching and service staff
  • Arranges medical attention for ill or injured youth in accordance with policies of regulatory agencies
  • Confers with teaching staff and treatment members to supervise planning of educational progress regarding youth's behavioral or learning problems
  • Reviews and evaluates facility activities to ensure conformance to state and local regulations and to policies and procedures of accreditation agencies
  • Assists with IEP and 504 process for all students
  • Manages supervisors who oversee employees in the campus school and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units
  • Performs other duties as assigned
