About The Position

Englewood Schools is seeking a visionary leader for the Principal position at Charles Hay World School. Charles Hay World School is an International Baccalaureate school serving approximately 270 students in grades Kindergarten through 6th grade, including a center-based Affective Needs program. It is a school of choice, welcoming families from outside the traditional enrollment boundaries. The school focuses on inquiry-based teaching, international-mindedness, social/emotional development, problem-solving, and STEAM. It offers Spanish instruction, arts, music, one-on-one devices for all students, community-based learning, and extensive after-school programs. Charles Hay World School is an innovative, collaborative environment that values student-centered learning, creativity, and a strong commitment to student success. The school has a history of academic excellence, evidenced by three consecutive years of 'Performance' ratings on the CDE School Performance Framework and a significant increase in its overall SPF score. Requirements

  • Master's degree with emphasis in curriculum, instruction, educational leadership or administration (required).
  • Five (5) years successful teaching experience (required).
  • Possess or the ability to attain a State of Colorado Principal's license
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License.
  • Valid Colorado Principal License upon hire.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness as both a team leader and team member
  • Understanding of and experience in building-level school improvement processes leading to increased student performance
  • Ability to be adaptive yet focused on improvement priorities
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to work with teachers, and all staff to grow instructionally and professionally
  • Computer and technology skills.
  • Effectively works with students from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Collaborates well with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Capable of understanding and following both complex oral and written instructions.
  • Able to perform duties independently with minimal supervision.
  • Communicates effectively with the School District community.
  • Skilled in analysis, instruction, negotiation, coordination, communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal interactions.
  • Proficient in comparing, computing, synthesizing, and evaluating information.
  • Meets attendance standards and works the necessary hours to fulfill essential responsibilities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as an educational administrator is preferred
  • Experience at the elementary level is preferred
  • Experience with International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme is preferred
  • Instructional expertise around scientific and research-based early literacy development and practice is preferred
  • Bilingual (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Leads staff members, through professional learning communities, in utilizing the districts' standards-based curriculum to implement data-driven-instruction that responds to students' learning needs
  • Creates, implements and maintains tiered systems of academic and social emotional/behavioral support
  • Utilizes appropriate resources of the staff, student body, school district and the community to develop and maintain highly effective instructional and co-curricular programs
  • Plans and implements goals and objectives related to the improvement of instruction in a standard based model and leading to increased student achievement
  • Plans and implements professional development activities for teachers and other staff members
  • Serves as strong, supportive advocate for the school's vision, students and staff
  • Embraces the elementary community, is spirited, and cares about/enjoys working with kids
  • Makes difficult decisions that are best for students, staff and the school
  • Motivates, inspires and leads students and staff
  • Responsible for performance evaluation and supervision of each staff member assigned to the school
  • Develops and maintains effective communications among the students, the community, the faculty and the administration
  • Plans and implements effective school improvement processes leading to increased student performance (short cycle action planning, 90 day plans)
  • Engages in professional learning that integrates application of learning with Englewood Schools strategic plans and initiatives.
  • Support work around securing and maintaining grants that support educational opportunities for students
  • Supports the mission and vision of the Superintendent and Board of Education
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Supervision of certified and classified employees.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the district's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; conferences, goal setting, formal and informal observations, feedback and employee evaluations; rewarding, disciplining and recommending termination employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Prioritize and schedule work tasks independently.
  • Create and implement effective and efficient process management strategies (e.g., procedures, equipment, materials and supplies).
  • Accurately project budgetary needs and plans for effective use of fiscal resources.
  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with professional standards, state guidelines, and school system policy.
