About The Position

Rochester Community Schools is seeking an experienced and dynamic Principal for Rochester High School. This administrative role requires strong leadership, supervisory, and administrative skills to promote the educational development of each student. The Principal will be responsible for maintaining an effective learning environment, fostering positive relationships with the community, and working collaboratively with staff to implement educational programs and district initiatives. Requirements

  • Master’s Degree preferably in Educational Leadership, School Administration or Curriculum.
  • Valid State of Michigan teaching certificate, preferably in Secondary Education.
  • Must have or be eligible to obtain appropriate valid Administrative Certification.
  • Minimum of three years successful building administrative experience.
  • Minimum of five years teaching and/or administrative experience and substantial experience in a variety of leadership roles is preferred.

  • Ability to plan, organize and execute the full range of administrative tasks

Responsibilities

  • Works to maintain an effective learning environment in the school.
  • Works to establish and maintain a favorable relationship with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for overall school objectives and programs, and to interpret and implement Board policies and administrative directives.
  • Works with instructional staff to initiate, design and implement programs to meet needs of students.
  • Works cooperatively with administrative colleagues to ensure consistently high standards throughout the district.
  • Analyzes and shares student data and educational research with staff, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Models and articulates high expectations.
  • Networks with universities, as well as county, state, national and international organizations, to ensure updated knowledge of best practices.
  • Initiates regular two-way communication with students, parents and staff.
  • Prepares and submits school’s budget and monitors expenditures of funds.
  • Supervises the counseling/guidance program to enhance overall school climate and individual student development.
  • Works cooperatively with various members of the District Administration staff in addressing issues relating to transportation, special services, and other support services.
  • Keeps abreast of changes and developments in the profession by attending professional meetings and conferences, honing technological skills, reading professional journals and other publications, and discussing concerns and issues of mutual interest with colleagues.
  • Leads in the growth, supervision, and evaluation of instructional staff.
  • Closely monitors instruction to ensure rigor and best practice is occurring for all students.
  • Supports, nurtures and provides for the professional development of individuals, teams, and entire staff.
  • Supervises all activities and programs that are associated with the school.
  • Embraces diversity in the community and encourages participation by all stakeholders.
  • Communicates to staff as necessary for the proper functioning and leadership of the school through various means including meetings, electronically, face to face, etc.
  • Assists in the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, assigning, and evaluation of the school’s professional and support staff.
  • Enforces discipline as necessary in accordance with the Code of Responsible Behavior and Student Conduct.
  • Develops pro-active measures aimed at creating a safe environment for all students.
  • Cooperatively monitors the safety and administration of the school facility and grounds, including collaboration with local law enforcement and on-site security teams.
  • Prepares and/or supervises the preparation of building, district, state and federal reports.
  • Supervises accurate reporting to parents of student records.
  • When appropriate, delegates authority to designated staff to assume responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal.
  • Mentors and supervises Assistant Principals.
  • Offers guidance to those who may be experiencing work related or personal problems.
  • Communicates regularly with the Human Resources Department regarding employees experiencing issues impacting work performance.
  • Insures that home instruction is provided for homebound or hospitalized students in accordance with state law.
  • Actively supports the development and furthering of district initiatives.
