About The Position

This job posting is for the Short Term 2026-2027 school year at Independence High School. It is a 240-day contract position for a Principal. The role involves assuming administrative responsibility and overall instructional leadership for the assigned public school, including student discipline, and the planning, operation, supervision, and evaluation of the educational program. The Principal will recommend employment actions for school employees, monitor instructional and managerial processes, evaluate employee performance, and develop professional development plans. The position also requires budget development, application of research and data for school improvement, communication of high-level performance expectations, and leadership in building Professional Learning Communities. The role must demonstrate competencies as required by New Mexico Administrative Code for Principals and Assistant Principals and comply with ethical responsibilities and employee standards of conduct.

Requirements

  • MA or equivalent degree in School Administration
  • NM 100 Level 3B Administrative License or ability to apply and receive
  • Assistant Principal or equivalent experience required
  • 6 years minimum teaching experience
  • Effective organizational ability
  • Professional written and oral communication skills
  • Highly effective technology skills
  • Ability to maintain high level of professionalism and confidentiality regarding students, staff, parents, and school matters.

Responsibilities

  • Assume administrative responsibility and overall instructional leadership for the public school to which s/he is assigned, including the discipline of students and the planning, operation, supervision and evaluation of the educational program of the school.
  • Recommend to the local superintendent the employment, promotion, transfer, discharge and termination of school employees in her/his school.
  • Monitor instructional and managerial processes to ensure that program activities are related to program outcomes and recommend corrective actions based on findings.
  • Evaluate the performance of school employees and develop professional development plans or job improvement plans to assist school employees to improve.
  • Take disciplinary action against school employees.
  • Develop a proposed budget for the public school, with input from the school council, and submit it to the local superintendent.
  • Identify, analyze and apply research and data findings to promote school improvement.
  • Communicate and promote expectations for high-level performance of staff and students.
  • Provides leadership in building effective Professional Learning Communities.
  • Demonstrates the competencies as required by Regulation Title 6, Chapter 69, Part 7 of the New Mexico Administrative Code Performance Evaluation System Requirements for Principals and Assistant Principals effectiveness as required by Regulation Title 6, Chapter 69, Part 8 of the New Mexico Administrative Code Teacher and School Leader Effectiveness.
  • Complies with state-approved New Mexico Administrative Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession and the RRPS Employee Standards of Conduct and upholds and enforces rules, administrative directives and regulations, school board policies, and local, state and federal regulations.
  • Perform other duties assigned to her/him by the local superintendent to implement the policies of the local school board.
  • Employee may be assigned other duties based on the needs of the district during the term of employment.
