About The Position

Principal Choices Academy - Secondary Schools. This position is directly responsible for the supervision of the instructional staff and program and the routine administrative duties necessary for the operation of Choices alternative education programs and pathways. It ensures the provision of comprehensive support services, including counseling, mentoring, and academic assistance, to address the social, emotional, and academic needs of students. The role provides visionary leadership in developing and implementing educational programs tailored to meet the needs of at-risk and non-traditional students. The Principal is responsible for the scholastic, discipline, and attendance success of all students assigned to Choices. This role is collaboratively responsible for the supervision of the building service and food service staff with respective central office departments servicing the school site. The Principal develops and manages the school budget to effectively allocate resources for instructional materials, staff development, and student support services. This role is directly responsible for leadership in the updating of the comprehensive School Improvement Plan that will provide students, parents and staff members the expectations and guidance to ensure the opportunities for success of all students assigned to the school. The Principal works as a collaborative member of the Alternative Pathway Referral team and maintains direct supervision of all educational pathways. Additionally, the Principal develops a comprehensive plan for the middle school summer programming, including scheduling, curriculum development, along with hiring and retaining teachers, and staff to ensure alignment with educational objectives and standards. Other leadership and administrative duties are assigned.

Requirements

  • Eligibility for Maryland teaching certificate/license with Supervisor of Instruction, Assistant Principal, and Principal AND/OR Administrator II endorsement.
  • Ability to organize, delegate, and supervise.
  • Knowledge of the Maryland Professional Standards for Educational Leaders.
  • Knowledge of the Maryland College and Career Ready Standards and effective instructional strategies.
  • Experience in the Teacher Evaluation Process.
  • Knowledge of the requirements of the Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program.
  • Ability to ensure teachers’ utilization of professional development opportunities by effectively demonstrating strategies and techniques conducive to optimal student performance.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and personal qualifications necessary to work successfully with students, teachers, administrators, parents, and the community.

Nice To Haves

  • Five (5) years successful classroom experience preferred.
