About The Position

The Principal, Technical Program Manager leads complex, large-scale programs by defining goals, managing cross-functional dependencies, and driving end-to-end technology solutions. This role requires expertise in program planning, technical design, risk management, and stakeholder engagement to ensure successful delivery across multiple teams. The position involves translating product requirements into scalable system architectures, optimizing workflows, and fostering operational excellence. The Principal Program Manager proactively addresses challenges, mentors team members, and communicates progress to stakeholders, ensuring alignment and continuous improvement throughout the program lifecycle. The In-Club Systems & Infrastructure team at Sam’s Tech leads the delivery of essential in-club technologies, including computer vision, new club openings, and operational systems impacting millions of members. As a Principal Technical Program Manager, you will collaborate with business, engineering, product, and operations teams to align technical execution with strategic goals. The team focuses on removing ambiguity at scale and ensuring platforms are delivered with quality, speed, and resilience. This role demands expertise in program and risk management, stakeholder engagement, technical design, and driving complex initiatives to successful completion.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in program and project management, including risk and stakeholder management across complex, cross-functional initiatives.
  • Strong technical expertise in system architecture, cloud infrastructure, APIs, and software lifecycle management.
  • Proven ability to translate product requirements into scalable technical designs and ensure operational excellence.
  • Skilled in defining program goals, managing dependencies, and driving delivery within resource and timeline constraints.
  • Proficient in communication, reporting, and alignment with stakeholders to resolve ambiguity and maintain program clarity.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills with data-driven decision-making and continuous improvement mindset.
  • Ability to mentor team members and implement scalable workflows and automation techniques.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or related area and 6 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.
  • 8 years’ experience in engineering, engineering program management, technical program management, product management, or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification in Project Management.
  • Master’s degree in Business Administration, with specialization in strategy, supply chain, finance, information systems, or related area and 4 years’ experience in product design.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

  • Drive risk identification, mitigation planning, and issue resolution to maintain program momentum.
  • Establish and improve scalable workflows, launch plans, and operational excellence frameworks.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and impacts clearly to stakeholders and leadership.
  • Mentor team members on best practices and problem-solving techniques.
