Pratt & Whitney’s Engineering Support to Operations (ESTO) organization is seeking a proactive, goal-oriented, and detail-focused Principal Structures Engineer to support commercial engine programs at Columbus Forge in Columbus, Georgia. In this role, you will perform structural assessments of compressor system blades and vanes while partnering with Component Integrated Product Teams (CIPT), ESTO, quality, and manufacturing engineering teams to resolve technical issues and improve hardware producibility.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and 8 years of relevant engineering experience, or an Advanced degree in a related field and 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience performing structural analysis of engineering components or hardware with experience in ANSYS or equivalent structural analysis software, and independently managing multiple technical assignments and communicating engineering findings and recommendations.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or Manufacturing Engineering.
  • Experience with compressor blades, vanes, rotating hardware, or aerospace engine structures.
  • Strong proficiency with MS Office and additional structures-based engineering software.
  • Experience supporting process improvement, producibility, quality nonconformance, or supplier-related engineering activities.
  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with demonstrated professional judgment and ability to develop creative technical solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Execute structural analyses for Low-Pressure Compressor (LPC) and High-Pressure Compressor (HPC) components using hand calculations, 2D/3D finite element modeling, approved engineering tools, and engineering judgment.
  • Perform structural assessments for proactive redesigns and improvement projects, including initiatives such as Athena for airfoil functional acceptance, to improve product producibility and performance.
  • Analyze and support the evaluation and disposition of quality nonconformances and supplier requests for information, identifying technical issues and recommending appropriate resolutions.
  • Collaborate with CIPT, ESTO, quality, and manufacturing engineering teams to identify problems, develop solutions, and complete structural engineering deliverables.
  • Document structural analyses and present technical results, conclusions, and recommendations to integrated product teams, management, and customers.
