About The Position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Principal Structures Engineer for its Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelles (MSEN) Structures team in Oklahoma City. The role provides structural analysis support for military engine Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) operations, evaluating the durability and structural integrity of components such as bearing compartments, gearboxes, lube pumps, oil tanks, tubes, mounting brackets, and ducts. The engineer conducts finite element analysis and classical engineering assessments to evaluate residual fatigue life, including Low Cycle Fatigue (LCF), High Cycle Fatigue (HCF), and damage tolerance. The role also assesses incidental damage and normal wear to determine component integrity and suitability for return to service, and supports product supportability initiatives and redesign efforts that improve maintainability, durability, and service life. The position uses advanced finite element modeling and simulation tools to develop engineering solutions and represents structural engineering on multidisciplinary teams. The engineer documents analytical methods and results, presents conclusions and recommendations to management and external customers, and advances engineering methods and standard work processes. This is an onsite, U.S.-based role in Oklahoma City, with domestic travel below 10%. U.S. citizenship is required. Relocation is eligible.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline with 8 years of relevant experience, or a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline with 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience in engineering design and/or structural analysis.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills using FEM for stress/deflection and vibration, and performing LCF, HCF, Fracture Mechanics, or Kinematics analysis.
  • U.S. citizenship is required because only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under the program/contract.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science and/or Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience in structural integrity-related analysis and risk assessment techniques for gas turbine engines.
  • Working knowledge of gas turbine hardware structural analysis techniques using Ansys Classic and Ansys Workbench.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and the ability to function across a wide range of disciplines and management levels.
  • Strong communication, presentation, teaming, and collaboration skills.
