About The Position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Principal Structures Engineer to provide engineering support to its Air Force customer at the Oklahoma City, Tinker Air Force Base Maintenance, Repair & Overhaul (MRO) facility. The role is part of the Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelles (MSEN) Structures team and performs structural analysis on military engine programs to demonstrate the durability and structural integrity of Mechanical Systems, Externals, and Nacelle components. The engineer will analyze engine hardware such as bearing compartments, gearboxes, lube pumps, oil tanks, tubes, mounting brackets, and ducts. The position supports MRO operations and product supportability initiatives, including redesigns intended to improve maintainability, durability, and service life. It uses finite element modeling and simulation alongside classical engineering methods to assess component integrity and develop engineering solutions. The position is based primarily onsite in Oklahoma City and requires less than 10% domestic travel. U.S. citizenship is required to access program information. Relocation is eligible. The posted salary range is $107,500–$204,500, with offers based on factors including responsibilities, experience, location, education, and skills. Eligible applicants may receive benefits and may qualify for annual incentive compensation, subject to program and business-unit conditions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline and 8 years of relevant experience, or a Master of Science degree in a STEM discipline and 5 years of relevant experience.
  • Relevant experience in engineering design and/or structural analysis.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills using finite element methods for stress/deflection and vibration, and performing LCF, HCF, Fracture Mechanics, or Kinematics analysis.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science and/or Master of Science degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
  • Experience in structural integrity-related analysis and risk assessment techniques for gas turbine engines.
  • Working knowledge of gas turbine hardware structural analysis techniques using Ansys Classic and Ansys Workbench.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, including the ability to function across a wide range of disciplines and management levels.
  • Strong communication, presentation, teaming, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform structural analyses in support of Oklahoma City engine Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul operations for hardware including bearing compartments, gearboxes, lube pumps, oil tanks, tubes, mounting brackets, and ducts.
  • Conduct finite element analysis and classical engineering assessments to evaluate residual fatigue life, including Low Cycle Fatigue (LCF) and High Cycle Fatigue (HCF), and assess damage tolerance.
  • Assess incidental damage and normal wear to determine component integrity and suitability for return to service.
  • Provide structural analysis support for product supportability initiatives, including redesigns to improve maintainability, durability, and service life.
  • Apply advanced finite element modeling and simulation tools to perform detailed structural assessments and develop technically sound engineering solutions.
  • Represent structural engineering on multidisciplinary teams and develop solutions balancing customer requirements for durability, performance, cost, and weight.
  • Document analytical methods and results, and present technical conclusions and recommendations to Pratt & Whitney management and external customers.
  • Advance technology and drive continuous improvement by enhancing engineering methods, analytical capabilities, and standard work processes.
