About The Position

Northrop Grumman is seeking a Principal Facilities Engineer or Senior Principal Facilities Engineer to develop site and architectural drawings for facility projects that support both sustaining infrastructure and new program facility requirements on site at their Clearfield, Utah location. In this position, the selected candidate will plan, design, and oversee the reconfiguration, maintenance, and alteration of equipment, machinery, buildings, structures, and other facilities. They will gather and review data concerning facility or equipment specifications, company or government restrictions, required completion date, and construction feasibility. The role involves creating architectural designs, coordinating with architecture/engineering firms, preparing bid sheets and contracts, reviewing and estimating design costs, and inspecting construction progress to ensure conformance to drawings, specifications, and schedules. The position requires applying extensive technical expertise, communicating effectively, developing creative technical solutions, and working with considerable latitude. The engineer will guide major programs, represent the organization on drawing reviews, and interact with senior external personnel. Specific duties include coordinating Revit/BIM models, assisting coworkers with Revit best practices, creating diagrams for management reviews, updating Archibus space management software, working with production customers, providing technical support to project managers, coordinating with other engineering disciplines, checking design deliverables, consulting on equipment placement, and serving as a technical resource for maintenance. Additional responsibilities include teaming with other disciplines to ensure cost-effective and compliant projects, inspecting construction progress, reviewing and estimating design costs, consulting on new facility layouts or alterations, and maintaining architectural Revit models.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM or Architecture with 5 years’ experience with facility engineering experience, or 3 years’ experience and MS Degree in architecture (for Principal level).
  • Bachelor’s degree in STEM or Architecture with 8 years’ experience with facility engineering experience, or 6 years experience and MS Degree architecture or 4 years experience and PhD in architecture (for Senior Principal level).
  • Background in Architecture specifically in industrial environments.
  • Ability to obtain a US Government Secret Security Clearance.
  • Ability to obtain required Program Accesses.

Responsibilities

  • Develop site and architectural drawings for facility projects.
  • Plan, design, and oversee the reconfiguration, maintenance, and alteration of equipment, machinery, buildings, structures, and other facilities.

  • Inspect or direct the inspection of construction and installation progress to ensure conformance to established drawings, specifications, and schedules.
  • Coordinate the creation of federated Revit/BIM models that include architectural, mechanical, structural and electrical discipline models.
  • Assist/teach coworkers in understanding Revit methods/best practices.
  • Create diagrams and presentations to support design decisions during reviews for upper management.
  • Assist the space planning department in updating Archibus space management software.
  • Work with production customers to understand needs and document requirements.
  • Provide technical support to project managers during every phase of the project.
  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines to capture all technical requirements for the equipment.
  • Check design deliverables in accordance with industry codes and standards, contract requirements, and company standards.
  • Consult with space planning on options for placement of equipment in the facility.
  • Be a technical resource for maintenance when troubleshooting equipment issues.
  • Oversee the equipment installation and commissioning to ensure all specification requirements are met.
  • Travel to equipment suppliers, as required, to validate progress and perform checkout testing.
  • Team with other engineering disciplines, management, internal customers, and suppliers to ensure projects are cost effective, within budget, meet the design criteria, meet schedule, and coordinate release and buy off with customers.
  • Consult on the design of new facility layouts or alterations to existing structures or construction of new structures, this will include navigating building codes and permits.
  • Maintain existing condition architectural Revit models to ensure good starting data for projects that will meet evolving business needs.
