Principal Solutions Engineering – AI server/rack Infrastructure

Advanced Micro Devices, Inc•Seattle, WA

About The Position

AMD’s Data Center Platform Engineering Group designs, develops, and delivers cloud-enabling server and rack infrastructure. The group works with OEM and ODM partners and cloud service providers to address complex server and rack design needs. AMD is seeking a Principal Member of Technical Staff to own system design support, rack-level bring-up, and customer engagement for the AMD Instinct product line. The role bridges AMD system architects and platform development teams with OEM partners. It influences AI solution design and architecture, leads hands-on debug and validation at customer locations, drives root-cause analysis, and provides field feedback that informs future product roadmaps. The position is based in Seattle, Washington; Austin, Texas; or Santa Clara, California, and requires travel to customer, factory, and company locations. Visa sponsorship is not available. AMD says benefits are described in its “AMD benefits at a glance” materials, but the posting does not specify individual benefits.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, master’s, or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
  • Advanced experience in system architecture, hardware and firmware debug, and customer-facing engineering roles.
  • Deep understanding of server and rack system architecture, including x86, GPUs, PCIe, and interconnects.
  • Strong proficiency in system firmware debug, update flows, and deployment strategies, including BIOS/UEFI and BMC/OpenBMC.
  • Ability to travel to customer, factory, and company locations.

Nice To Haves

  • HPC or AI/ML focus in prior engineering experience.
  • Experience with system bring-up and debugging tools such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, ITP, and JTAG.
  • Knowledge of power delivery, thermal management, and mechanical form factors in data center environments.
  • A proven track record of leading technical teams through complex problem-solving and interacting with executive leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with customers to architect and optimize rack-scale AI solution deployments using AMD Instinct GPUs.
  • Support customer platform and rack design reviews, identifying changes that can improve quality, performance, and competitive advantage.
  • Deliver technical documentation, best practices, and reference architectures for adoption and deployment of AMD AI platforms.
  • Lead hands-on rack-, platform-, and component-level debug and validation, including stress testing, issue reproduction, and root-cause analysis.
  • Lead customer issue resolution, gather diagnostics, manage critical escalations, and drive long-term process improvements.
  • Debug system firmware, including BIOS and BMC, during initial bring-up and large-scale deployments; resolve integration issues across hardware, firmware, and software in customer environments.
  • Own the technical support interface for end customers and provide engineering support for deployed fleets.
  • Communicate debug progress, technical insights, and status to leadership and align cross-functional teams.
  • Provide technical feedback from the field to influence AMD software and hardware roadmaps.
  • Use customer execution insights to influence future product architecture decisions.
  • Promote ownership, accountability, and technical excellence, and mentor senior engineers and emerging technical leaders.
