About The Position

Lead end-to-end solution architecture and design across the SAP S/4HANA Transformation, with a primary focus on upstream business processes and solutions. Own overall solution integrity across upstream releases, value streams, and functional domains, ensuring architectural coherence across SAP S/4HANA and the broader ecosystem. The Chevron ERP Transformation program is a SAP S/4HANA multi-year global implementation. The program will deliver a standardized ERP enabling continuous innovation for the enterprise. It will reduce customization, fulfill software upgrades timely to deliver new business innovations, and lower the total cost of ownership.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in ERP/SAP solution architecture and end-to-end design for large, complex transformation programs (including multi-release delivery).
  • Proven experience delivering SAP S/4HANA solution architecture (and/or SAP ECC to S/4HANA transformation), including fit-to-standard, cross-module integration, and clean-core/extension strategy decisions.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Upstream Oil & Gas business processes and end-to-end scenarios, and the ability to translate business outcomes into coherent ERP solution designs.
  • Strong experience with architecture governance and assurance, including leading design reviews, driving resolution of design escalations, and enforcing architecture standards and guardrails across domains.
  • Ability to make and defend architecture decisions related to patterns, extension placement, and technical debt trade-offs, balancing business value, delivery risk, and total cost of ownership.
  • Experience designing and assuring complex enterprise ecosystems across SAP and non-SAP platforms, including integration patterns, data flows, and the broader application landscape.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence scope, sequencing, and simplification decisions to reduce cost and delivery risk, and to communicate solution implications, options, and risks to senior leaders.
  • Proven experience providing technical direction to system integrators and vendors, including accountability for solution quality and alignment to enterprise architecture standards and program design strategy.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent work experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on functional and solution architecture experience in SAP S/4HANA Asset Management/EAM (e.g., maintenance planning, work execution, reliability, and performance reporting) in an asset-intensive environment.
  • Experience with upstream-focused SAP and adjacent solutions (e.g., integration to field/operations systems, production operations, and materials/supply processes supporting upstream execution).
  • Demonstrated experience establishing or operating “clean core” practices, including extension governance and the use of SAP BTP and standard APIs/integration patterns.
  • Experience with enterprise integration platforms and patterns (e.g., event-based integration, API management, middleware) and designing resilient integrations between SAP and non-SAP systems.
  • Experience with ERP data architecture concepts including master data governance, data quality, and analytics/reporting implications of solution design decisions.
  • Strong program leadership skills working with multiple stakeholders (Business, Product, IT, and vendors), including influencing without authority and driving alignment across teams.
  • Experience with solution options analysis and trade-off facilitation (scope, sequencing, risk, cost, and operability) and communicating recommendations clearly to executive leadership.
  • SAP certification(s) and/or architecture certifications (e.g., SAP Certified Application/Technology Associate, TOGAF) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end upstream solution design and ensure overall solution integrity across releases, value streams, and functional domains.
  • Provide architecture governance and assurance by guiding architecture reviews and design escalations, including extension decision support (e.g., yellow/red decisions).
  • Ensure adherence to internal architecture policies and standards.
  • Own decisions on architectural patterns, extension placement, and technical debt trade-offs.
  • Partner with Product Management, Program Management, and Business to ensure designs are aligned to business outcomes.
  • Influence release sequencing, scope prioritization and trade-offs, and solution simplification to reduce cost and delivery risk.
  • Provide point of view on solution implications, risks, and options to program leadership.
  • Provide technical direction and accountability across system integrator (SI) and vendor architects, ensuring external designs align with Chevron standards and ERP Transformation Program design strategy.
  • Act as design authority when vendor recommendations conflict with or diverge from the target architecture.
