Raytheon has an opportunity for a Principal Platform Software Engineer with well-rounded Infrastructure Platform Engineering expertise to join an agile product team. The Ideal candidate will have experience in both traditional infrastructure design, provisioning, and deployment of compute, storage, and networking resources and emerging modern Infrastructure as Code (IaC) automation technologies. The Principal Platform Software Engineer would be involved with development, implementation of traditional compute, network, storage systems and related deployments, as well as support improving the program platform’s over-arching design through new emerging technologies. This includes existing operating systems and server hardware designs, as well as supporting the design and development of new modernized system architectures through automation tools.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 8 years of prior relevant engineering experience.
  • Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools such as Terraform and/or Ansible.
  • And experience with software deployment and integration.
  • Experience with Linux/Windows Operating Systems and Virtualization technologies.
  • Experience with Agile Development Methodologies, e.g., Scrum and SAFe.
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued Top Secret security clearance is required prior to start date.
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

  • Current CompTIA Security +
  • Experience deploying, configuring, and supporting CI/CD Pipelines tools (E.g. Jira, Confluence, Bit Bucket, Jenkins, Artifactory, Gitlab)
  • Experience running technical teams
  • Background in COTS/FOSS product installation, configuration, and integration
  • Experience designing, implementing, and integrating platform infrastructure services using infrastructure as code (IaC)
  • Multi-disciplined infrastructure experience and expertise (Server, Storage, Network Hardware)
  • Experience with programming languages (E.g. Python, Java, Ruby, Bash, C++, C#, Go).
  • Experience troubleshooting performance, reliability, and availability issues across Linux/Windows based platforms and infrastructure services
  • Experience with containerization using technologies such as Kubernetes, Docker, Podman, Helm, Rancher

Responsibilities

  • Lead a multidisciplinary team of SW platform, DT and GSS engineers (15+) and direct the day‑to‑day execution of the team members
  • Serve as technical lead with hands-on expertise in architecting, designing, implementing, and integrating infrastructure platform services on Linux and Windows based Operating Systems.
  • Delivering schedule milestones defined in the environment recovery plan.
  • Providing training, mentoring, and technical oversight for their teams.
  • Offering design guidance and leading design reviews for next-generation development environments.
  • Ensuring compliance with both RTN and customer cyber security standards and implementation requirements.
  • Managing budget authority for assigned platform initiatives
