Principal Software Engineering Manager
About The Position
The Principal Software Engineering Manager will build, coach, and lead a team responsible for architecting and designing services and solutions to manage Entra ID identities and access at scale. The role draws on cybersecurity expertise, technical leadership, people management, and experience building and operating large-scale online services. The manager will help shape security at Microsoft and protect Microsoft services and customers while guiding and growing security software engineers. The IAM Protect team builds, secures, and protects Microsoft’s internal Entra ID identities, groups, and tenants. It develops scalable services and solutions to create, enumerate, configure, govern, and secure a large fleet of digital assets. The role includes supporting customers and live-site operations with DevOps engineers and partnering with product management, customers, partners, and other stakeholders to define requirements and deliver products in iterative cycles. Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 6+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, or equivalent experience.
- Must meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements for the role, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
Nice To Haves
- 5+ years of experience operating online services.
- 3+ years of people management experience; experience at a Big Tech company such as Microsoft, Amazon, Meta, Apple, or Google is preferred.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 8+ years of technical engineering experience coding in languages such as C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python; or a bachelor’s degree in a related field and 10+ years of such experience; or equivalent experience.
- Experience in cybersecurity.
- Experience designing solutions on Entra ID (Azure AD) and Azure.
Responsibilities
- Hire, coach, and grow a world-class team of software engineers.

- Provide hands-on technical leadership in architecture, design, code reviews, development, security, and quality.
