About The Position

The Principal, Software Engineer leads the design and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, driving technical execution across multiple teams. This role applies cloud-native architecture principles to develop resilient distributed systems and integrates AI/ML solutions to enhance customer experiences. The position requires strategic technical leadership, mentorship, and collaboration with cross-functional partners to align engineering efforts with business goals. The role emphasizes continuous improvement, innovation, and maintaining high standards of quality and operational excellence throughout the software development lifecycle. About the team: The team leads the design and development of scalable, cloud-native AI-powered systems, integrating advanced AI/ML components for intelligent automation and enhanced user experiences. It drives full software development lifecycle practices, emphasizing DevOps, CI/CD, observability, and resilience. The group prioritizes extensibility, maintainability, and alignment with enterprise standards and security. Members collaborate across functions to deliver robust, modular solutions while guiding architectural decisions and incident prevention strategies. This team fosters engineering excellence through technical leadership, continuous improvement, and innovation to support Walmart’s evolving platform and customer needs.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in platform engineering leadership, delivering scalable, cloud-native architectures and reusable tooling.
  • Proven ability to drive full software development lifecycle, including CI/CD, testing, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Expertise in designing distributed systems optimized for real-time data processing and AI/ML integration.
  • Strong technical judgment with a focus on long-term architectural decisions and system reliability.
  • Demonstrated skills in mentoring engineers and influencing cross-team architectural standards.
  • Proficiency in applying model-driven design and leveraging AI agents to enhance development velocity.
  • Effective collaboration and communication with technical and non-technical stakeholders to align solutions with business needs.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 5 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.
  • 7 years’ experience in software engineering or related area.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, computer information systems, software engineering, or related area and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related area.
  • Background in creating inclusive digital experiences, demonstrating knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

  • Architect intelligent software systems integrating AI agents and advanced model-driven design techniques.
  • Provide strategic technical leadership, mentorship, and promote engineering best practices across teams.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to translate business needs into actionable technical requirements and measurable success metrics.
  • Maintain architectural documentation and ensure alignment with long-term platform strategies.
  • Foster continuous improvement through innovation, knowledge sharing, and adoption of emerging technologies.
